The Official Photography Thread - Vol. 3

Need some pointers. I am using a new set-up for my ebay with black background. The set up works great with light-colored shoes such as these:

But when it comes to dark-colored shoes such as these, the pictures come out terribly washed out. This picture is after heavy darkening and contrasting on Photoshop and even then it's still subpar (background still too light for my liking):

They were all taken using Aperture Priority, 400 ISO, with a 50mm prime. No flash, and using a photoflood light. I'm still a rookie, so any suggestion would be greatly appreciated.

Wanted to get a SLR but I figured I'd take baby steps.  Any suggestions on programs or tips for a rookie?

Alrght, that camera SUCKED!  1080p video was nice to have but if you cant take decent pics there's no point.  So I took it up one level and got this...

Satisfied so far.  If this doesnt work out, I'll jump to the D3000.

If you can do it, get the new Nikon 3100. Don't even get these fake DLSRs if you want some quality stuff. Might as well just take all that money and get a real one and then save up for some lenses. Trust me, in the long run you will save money on this expensive hobby.

Does this thread still do the monthly contest on a certain picture to take? I'm sure I wouldn't win, but it'd be good for me to try to shoot for a subject.

A few from the DC meet-up that didn't go down

   or did it?

I went to Georgetown for the meet-up a couple weeks back but didn't see anyone. It was a nice day until it began to rain but I took a few pictures.  If I'm not mistaking, the meet-up was rescheduled but I couldn't make it. I don't recall seeing any updates/photos from anyone, did it ever go down?

^^^^^^Quick.....you shooting with an XSi now? What happened to the 50D?

And just more innovations with HD video recording. Someone took to MK2s and shot a video and rendered it in HDR. It almost feels like a black and white photo coming to life. Looks insane when you see the footage of the guy talking, and this was shot in my hometown of SF.
