CanIFly34 - If you want a DSLR you should first decide if you want a canon or nikon. Go to a store and see which feels better in your hands and which menu controls you like. I have always used canon so I don't know much about nikon. If you go with a canon I would recommend a rebel such as the xti, xsi, ti1, or ti2. My first DSLR was the xti and I loved it, it's the perfect camera to learn on also. I used one for 2 years before upgrading to a 40D. Goodluck on your purchase and feel free to PM me if you have any other questions.

From a recent trip...

Pretty new with using DSLRs. Here are a few I took last weekend. Didn't have time till now to put them up. I hope you enjoy.

anybody here shoot videos with DSLRs? i have Nikon D5000 now that ive done some stuff with but i think i want to get the D90. Is it worth the switch? is there any external mics and lights that are compatible with the D90?

Thinking about selling my 17-55 and picking up a 17-40 instead. Possibly a 50mm 1.4 with the extra money.

For video....no. D5000 is pretty much on par video wise with the D90. Might as well wait on the D7000 and see what that has to offer in the next couple of days. Honestly though if you are using it for straight video, get the Canon T2i.

thanks for the info. i kinda have to stick with nikon though. i have a few lenses and flashes i still want to use. you shoot with a D90 right?

Yeah...I shoot with a D90. Good camera but it's becoming an older camera and to upgrade from a D5000 isn't so much of an upgrade. Just wait till they announce the D90 replacement and see what they have to offer. I am sure it will at least have 1080p and automatic focus.

First photos I took with my DSLR, please give me any feedback good and bad.
I didn't edit any of the pictures, because I'm still learning. So everything is taken straight off the cam.

Wanted to get a SLR but I figured I'd take baby steps.  Any suggestions on programs or tips for a rookie?

Alrght, that camera SUCKED!  1080p video was nice to have but if you cant take decent pics there's no point.  So I took it up one level and got this...

Satisfied so far.  If this doesnt work out, I'll jump to the D3000.
