SHAUN WHITE POSTS HUGE SCORE, LEADS FIELD IN HALFPIPE QUALIFYING
Feb 11, 8:30am EST
There wasn't much drama for Shaun White in the opening round of the halfpipe competition in Sochi. Laying down a score of 95.75 on his opening run, White paced the field and will head into today's final as the #1 qualifier.
Despite sloppy condition in the halfpipe that prompted criticism from the riders and threated to derail the competition, many were still able to figure out the pipe and land their runs.
Ayumu Hirano was the top qualifier from the first heat, launching massive airs out of the pipe and earning a 92.25.
Six riders total - the top three from each heat - advanced straight to the final.
I wonder if other snowboarders are happy someone else won the gold this time. All the media ever talks about is shaun white. They were interviewing the other U.S. snowboarders last week and asked them their thoughts on white dropping out of slopestyle. They looked at him like why are you asking us about someone else.
Most of those dudes looked up to Shaun at one point in their life I guarantee it. They probably still do. Dudes been killing the snowboard scene since before he was in middle school. Shaun's nothing less than a legend in the pipe.
IPod just put it down and the competition is getting a lot tougher for Shaun.
He is the Yankees, the Lakers, Duke – except he wins more.
