The long arm of the law has finally caught up with rapper Tru Life. Rewind back to 2005: Jay-Z announced that Tru Life was the first artist signed to his new upstart Roc La Familia records. Unfortunately, Tru got caught up in all kinds of street/rap beefs, label drama, etc and bounced from Jay’s former label a few years later, without ever releasing an album.

Most of you are probably more familiar with Tru’s infamous incident with Mobb Deep than his music. But for those who were fans of Lizzy da kid, things don’t look good for the LES native. In a plea deal resulting from his 2009 murder charge, Robert Rosado aka Tru LIfe has been sentenced to 10 years in prison for the crime.

MANHATTAN CRIMINAL COURT — Rapper Tru Life was offered a plea deal Wednesday on charges related to the fatal stabbing of a man outside a Murray Hill apartment building nearly two years ago.

The rapper, whose real name is Robert Rosado, was allegedly involved in the stabbing death of Christopher Guerrero, 20, during a fight in June 2009. A second man was hospitalized, also with stab wounds, after the alleged incident.

The plea deal offered by Assistant District Attorney Linda Ford involved a 10-year sentence for the 34-year-old rapper and 12 years for his brother, Marcus Rosado. Both brothers face second-degree murder, gang assault and assault charges. The deal would require them to waive the opportunity to appeal.

The alleged fight took place at at 330 East 26th St. on June 15, 2009. Investigators said the incident was an extension of a dispute outside Pacha nightclub, at 618 West 46th St., which occurred several hours earlier, around 4 a.m.

Robert Rosado’s lawyer, Alan Abramson, said he would discuss the plea deal with his client Wednesday afternoon. If the plea deal is not accepted, the brothers will go to trial on the first Monday in March.

The rapper appeared in court Wednesday with a crew cut and neatly-groomed beard, in a dark brown suit and tie. His wife was in the courtroom.

Tru Life signed with Jay Z’s label Roc-A-Fella in 2005, according to The New York Times. Roc-A-Fella has since released him from the label.

seemed like dude had a promising future too.

Tru was about the right things, not te greatest rapper, but he actually cared about the hip hop community and that bled thru his work.

I for one am personally attached to this issue, because I actually am a personal friend of Bobby's. His brother Marcus as well. I grew up in the Alfred E. Smith neighborhood, they also grew up there and were naturally a part of the hood throughout their life.

I also become even more compelled to contribute to this topic, because I was actually locked up for a while on Rikers Island recently and was going back and forth to court. Coincidentally the brothers were being prosecuted by the same Judge as I was (Carrol Berkman). Me and my co-defendant, who also is from the Alfred E. Smith projects would actually see them in the holding cells, while waiting to be seen by the judge for court dates.

We chopped it up as much as we could. Shared the commissary and all that. But it was clear they both weren't the dudes that I knew. And this was early in this situation. I could just feel that it was hurting them mentally and physically. Rightly so, but I could see it more in Bob (Tru Life) physically. He had lost a lot of weight. But you could also tell they wasn't let it take them where they wasn't on they P's and Q's.

And the end of the day. Dudes could say that they wasn't feeling dude as a rapper, dudes can say they did. But everybody should also understand that Tru wasn't just a rapper. There are people being effected by this. Wives and kids.

Nobody on here really knows the situation or the circumstances in which they took place. Nobody knows if these dudes even did it.

I'm just gonna close this out with shout outs to two friends of mine.

I get the feeling he did do that *#**. In which case he should take that deal, get the charge dropped to manslaughter and be home in ten. Probably less with time served.
