I assume you would only do this if you intended on paying. Usually its as simple as giving it to the server before when they first come and then its on the bill, simple as that. I suppose you could go out of your way not to do it in front of her.

If it's a diner and its a coupon/gift certificate (ie a groupon or open table certificate that they sell for $25 for $50). I consider it but would explain to girl beforehand that someone gave me this thing and that is the reason why I chose this place.
