It's because everyone that wanted an iPhone before isn't just going to switch carriers like that. Once contracts come around or a brand new device comes out then we will see the crowds again.

there's no crowd because you can easily order it online without any backorders...but it did make record pre-order sales, so it does say something about the popularity of the iphone
for droid x, if you did not buy it within the first 2 days, the phone was back ordered for up to a month

Yup,

Nobody's just going to jump ship from AT&T just yet they all signed contracts that require a hefty fee in order to terminate.

Plus a lot of people prefer the talk and surf benefit AT&T has. (It comes in handy more than you think.)

And for those of you who prefer less dropped calls rather than a speedy network and ability to talk while on it. To each his own.
