Can't even save himself

Well you know Steve is anti-mentorship.

Son didn't give any dambs risking Wanda's life and involving her in his petty war.

I mean dude couldn't even put in the work to become a real soldier. He chose drugs as a solution.

He drops an airline corridor on a teenager, then tells him he's from Brooklyn and skips off.

Tony got worked by the director.. 1 film he's going toe to toe with hulk and the next he's getting multiple contusions from being hit by the car

Hell, the first film dude caught an SUV and subsequently got hit by it and rolled over by it and nothing

Hell first film dude took a direct hit from that tank and nothing

it's been explained that the inconsistencies with the armor in Iron Man 3 are supposed to be representative of his mental state

Idk about civil war tho Bucky and Cap worked him

It took 2 genetically modified lovers to overpower a billionaire genius in a suit. Worked him is an exaggeration.

When I/we talk about tony being nerf'd we're referring to civil war

In just the prior movie (AOU) he seemingly perfected the mark 42 tech, with the marks 43 and 45.. and he also had the mark 44 (Veronica)

Just seemed odd that he seemingly had to go back in tech to pushing a button at the end of CW to 'suit up'.. and portions of the suit that had previously functioned by themselves independently became dependent upon other areas of the suit getting damaged

End of avengers he had the bracelets.. iron man 3, he was walking in and out and jumping in and out of them.. then obviously there was the marks 42-45

Iron Man suit in Civil War is a downgrade from the suits he was using in Age of Ultron, no matter how you look at it. Tech wise, it's also not as innovative as the suit he was working on for the majority of Iron Man 3, though it also doesn't have the bugs that that suit had either.

I'd argue in Civil War Tony wanted to no longer have to fight on the front lines of these battles anymore. He was attempting to find a way to maintain peace without having to actively be involved. So why would he continue to upgrade the technology of his Mark suits. He was diverting his attentions and resources elsewhere.

"why would he continue to upgrade the technology of his Mark suits"

Because that's literally what Tony Stark does  Developing new technologies, at all levels, is the core of his character. Even then, assuming he did want to step back from fighting it doesn't make sense for him to continue using an Iron Man suit, but to then use a suit that's weaker than the suit he was using previously. Tony Stark is the last character that steps back in terms of something like that. That'd be like Batman or Black Panther having this awesome new suit, with all these new fancy gadgets, but in the next story arc they're back to using suits that they advanced beyond years ago. None of these characters do things like that.

So why not just role with what he had in AOU.. mark 44 or 45 would clearly be unfair.. but not even the mark 43?

which the mark 43 easily took on ultron, who cap struggled with (shield and all):

Cap vs ultron:

And the mark 45 which took on ultron in his final vibranium form (the stuff cap's shield is made of)

Why have a "46" that is significantly lesser than other suits

I wouldn't call that first clip taking Ultron on easily when it was pretty apparent that verion of Ultron was just a decoy to distract Starks while the vibranium got away

Exactly, why create a "46" that is significantly inferior to the previous 3 models

42, I could understand.. since he was testing out new tech and had stuff going on.. what's the excuse for "46"

And we didn't see him destroy 43-45, all of which he had the ability to summon.. even while cool, I didn't get the need for the glove thing given what we seen from his recent armors.. would think he would have something more readily available

So that wasn't the same version that cap was fighting prior to the final battle?

Could also do this with Loki.. and technically Thor too

Pretty sure cap ain't want them hulk problems.. or other things we've seen tony deal with, like a tank

The Writers needed to level the playing field. That's the answer to all your questions.

Happens in the comics and in the movies.
