Why do teams disallow/ban headbands?

Just curious.

Ben Wallace wasn't allowed to wear a headband with the Bulls. Jermaine O'Neal had to wait for Pat Riley's approval to wear a headband last season. Ronnie Brewer couldn't wear a headband with the Jazz.

Anybody remember that headband that also had a strip that went across your head? Ron Artest rocked it for awhile Lol

Because those teams are stupid.

How you gonna tell a grown man he cant wear a headband to keep sweat out his face?

Bulls dont let any of the players wear headbands, not just scott skiles. salmons and miller havent worn a headband since getting traded to the bulls last season and this season.

Correct.

It just depends what BS rule the teams coach makes.

if you're a coach and you're worried about a players HEADBAND, your focus is on the wrong thing.

like that's the reason the majority of guys wear 'em...same goes for shooting sleeves, esp. dudes wearing them on their off arm.

That headband was called the D-band

Bulls aren't allowed to wear headbands, I think it's because of the Jamal/EC/E-Rob era.

We weren't allowed to wear them in High School and we were good.

Just a coach or team rule, some might find it sloppy or distracting if a few players wear them and the rest of the time doesn't.

The majority of guys where them for show. So obviously some coaches don't like that. It is a really stupid rule though.

Yeah my old high school coach banned headbands, afros, cornrows and walking into the gym with jewelry (earrings).

In hs our coach wouldnt allow any of us to where sweatbands of any sorts.... even with my knee braces i had to go thru him before i was allowed to wear it
smh.gif

The D-bag believed that wearing sweatbands promoted individuality and took away from the team. On top of that we all had to wear matching team Jason Terry-esque socks

and in practice we had to wear ankle braces

I wonder if a player has ever passed on a team because of a stupid rule like this. I wouldn't rule it out: guys skip out on certain cities because someone has their number already. Coaches might think that it commands respect, but a quick way to lose your team is with nonsense rules.

I'm reading a book about Larry and Magic and the Celtics coach Bill Fitch lost his whole team in a year where they were contending because of his senseless rules.

Why did players stop wearing armbands?

MJ, Tmac, Kobe, VC, H20, AI, Stat, Franchise, Pippen, Penny, etc

The padded football player look is bleh

I think they banned armbands above the elbow or something like that. They should ban those sleeve-things though. Why are players who play like 5 minutes every game wear one on each arm? It doesn't make any sense.
