A reminder that this is a business: Patriots release WR Tiquan Underwood the night before the Super Bowl
As if we didn’t know, even with all the festivities, this is a business. And we just got another reminder.

A mere 24 hours before the Super Bowl, the Patriots made their final transaction in a year full of them. In one of the coldest moves ever, the Patriots released WR Tiquan Underwood and promoted DE Alex Silvestro.

This all but guarantees that WR Chad Ochocinco will be active. And while you have to feel for Underwood, who must be devastated, he will almost certainly get a ring if they win the Super Bowl.

I am told there were not disciplinary reasons for the move. Underwood did not do anything wrong, and I expect him to be back next year. But perhaps they wanted another defensive linemen on the field.

Here is the release:

DE ALEX SILVESTRO SIGNED TO THE 53-MAN ROSTER FROM THE PRACTICE SQUAD; WR TIQUAN UNDERWOOD RELEASED

FOXBORO– The New England Patriots announced today that rookie DE Alex Silvestro has been signed to the 53-man roster from the practice squad. In addition, the Patriots released WR Tiquan Underwood.

Silvestro, 23, was originally signed by New England as a rookie free agent out of Rutgers on July 27, 2011 and released on Sept. 3, 2011. He joined the New England practice squad on Sept. 28 and then was signed to the 53-man roster on Dec. 23 and saw action in his first NFL game in the victory over Miami on Dec. 24, registering two assisted tackles. Silvestro, 6-3, 267 pounds, was released on Dec. 29 and signed back to the practice squad on Dec. 31.

Underwood, 24, played in five games for New England in 2011 and caught three passes for 30 yards. Underwood, 6-1, 183 pounds, originally entered the NFL as a seventh round draft choice (253rd overall) by Jacksonville in the 2009 NFL Draft out of Rutgers. After beginning his rookie season on the practice squad, he joined the 53-man roster and appeared in three games, mainly on special teams.

Last season, he played in 10 games and caught eight passes for 111 yards and returned 24 kicks for 561 yards, including a career-long of 53 yards in the season-opener vs. Denver (9/12). He was released by Jacksonville on Aug. 25 and was signed by the Patriots on Aug. 29. Underwood was released by the Patriots on Sept. 3 before being signed back on Nov. 24.

I HAVE TO KNOW WHAT HE DID

I do appreciate the article using a picture of a Patriots player with a video camera.

Interesting. Maybe one of their DLinemen might have caught some kind of illness so they wanted to get another guy on the roster in case.

Son better flip that ring for some $ the moment he recieves it. Cold is an understatement for being released a day before the biggest event in American Sports.

probably acting like a kid, n now he won't play. at least he'll get to watch the game at a house party.

Reading into it some more, in order to ensure the Giants could not pick up any player until Monday the Pats had to wait until today.

damn Bill you Cold!

hopefully this pushes him to become a better WR or just up his game a lil more so nothing like this wont happen again

its ironic that he is holding a cam tho LOL and also look at his jersey number... coincidental?
