Bolt wins 100 at Golden Spike meet in 9.77
By KAREL JANICEK, Associated Press Writer
June 17, 2009
OSTRAVA, Czech Republic (AP)-Olympic champion and world-record holder Usain Bolt ran the 100 meters in 9.77 seconds Wednesday, helped along by a strong tail wind to easily win the Golden Spike meet.
"I'm just happy I got under 10 seconds," said Bolt, pushed along by a 4.7 mph wind. "Sometimes I got the right wind, sometimes I don't. I'm just happy I ran injury free."
Bolt cruised to victory ahead Britain's Craig Pickering, who finished in 10.08. Ronald Pogon of France was third in 10.17.
"It was quicker than I thought," said the Jamaican, who was cheered by the crowd of 22,000 long after his race.
Bolt established himself as the world's fastest man after setting world records in the 100 and 200 at last year's Beijing Olympics, and was part of the Jamaican team that broke the world mark in the 4x100 relay. He ran 9.69 in the 100 in the Bird's Nest.
Bolt ran 9.93 in Spanish Town, Jamaica, in March, also with help from a tail wind.
