US was second in voting behind Qatar for 2022. To think we probably would have been awarded another one if it werent for corruption
mean.gif

now that sepp "fair play" blatter is gone...
Although I don't necessarily disagree with this stance, most of the people indicted were from CONCACAF, South America, and Eastern Europe.   I would think that those areas would be preferential to the US getting a world cup.  It could also be, that the US couldn't possibly extradite or indict somebody from asia or the middle east as well, and that is why they were not named.

:lol  I'm okay with it... I mean, we're literally in the 3rd division, can't be expecting too much

Didn't we get Leeds or Norwich City in our inaugural season??

I guess you're right. It will be cool to see them up against BPL talent regardless (assuming any of the Starting XI actually plays) Last season it was Rangers and West Brom (2X)

I won't sit here and act like I know whose qualified or not for president after reading a couple wiki pages - can't and won't do that, but please footy gods don't let Platini be President.

He voted for Qatar, he's stubborn as all hell, and completely disregards any type of technology that could help the game. If he's president, Qatar will stand to keep the World Cup in 2022. No doubt about it.

It would be interesting to know which committee members voted for each host site. Out of all the countries that submitted bids for 2022,by all accounts Qatar submitted the worst bid and was deemed a huge risk not only for logistics, infrastructure, climate but for human rights as well;by fifas OWN internal evaluation. All committee members were made privy to this evaluation before they voted. So i guess its just hard to wrap my head around why the majority voted the way they did knowing all this and considering fifa is supposed to be nonprofit and it seems $ played way too much a factor corruption or not.

Blatter didn't vote for Qatar and it was thanks to Platini that they even got the WC in the first place. Handing platini the presidency would be a grave mistake. He's worse than blatter.

Mourinho's comments on Loftus-Cheek after todays friendly...

“Ruben said he had a pain in his back but what I was feeling was that he only had the pain when Sydney had the ball. When Chelsea had the ball he was playing very well, but when Sydney had the ball I think he was more impressed by watching Matic and Mikel work, instead of him working. So, with Ruben, it’s one step back in terms of my relationship with him. If he doesn’t know what it is to play for me and Chelsea it’s one step back.

“He has to learn that at 19 you have to run three times more than the others, you have to play to your limits and not play like a superstar with the ball at your feet because this is not Under-18s.

“The Under-18 competition is too easy for him. He’s too good to play in the Under-18s but I don’t accept that when he’s playing in midfield with Mikel and Matic when we don’t have the ball he doesn’t press, doesn’t have intensity and he’s waiting for everybody else to recover the ball. I don’t accept that in the superstars so how can I accept that in a kid? He has to learn what it takes to play for us.”

Anyone know a legit online retailer that has good sales on this previous seasons kits?

I remember when I went to the Camp Nou on a Euro trip, they had a great sale at the team on outgoing kits. I should of gotten more :{

If you care to, here's a great read. Mark Pieth, the president of the fifa Independent Governance Committee wrote a guide on how fifa needed to complete deep reforms.

http://www.fifa.com/mm/document/aff.../01/60/85/44/first_report_by_igc_to_fifa_exco[2].pdf

Pieth recommends term limits for executive committee members & the president, having FIFA vet candidates to the executive committee instead of the confederations, financial controls & greater transparency in the disbursement of funds.

It's like 20 pages long but a great read for those that are genuinely interested in the inner workings of fifa...

In a way, I think with blatter gone, I think there will be a period of chaos & such in fifa. Kinda in the same way Iraq fell into disarray when the Hussein regime fell. Things are so corrupt in the organization that all the snakes in the grass will scurry back under rocks now that some of it has been exposed.

It's going to take a great leader to bring everything under order...

Edit - poor Essien... He has no idea the grief he's stepped into playing in greece. :x

Can you guys tell me if this news means we will eventually get a revote for the 18 and 22 world cups?

I'd say it depends on whether or not the investigations by the US or Swiss authorities turn up any foul play with the bids. Nothing else will do it.

For 2018 in Russia, no way.

For 2022 Qatar, I say a good chance. Especially with all the human right violations, winter World Cup, the bribery that's become more transparent day by day that led to the vote, and absolute ridiculousness of having a Qatar World Cup.

I do like the idea of having a Middle East World Cup, I think it'd be great for the region and Islamic world. Qatar just never made any God damn sense.

kitbag.com usually has great prices.  If you have a credit card that doesn't charge for foreign currencies, it is great.

All those small *** countries are gunna vote for the candidate they think will be most like Blatter and not attempt to make any reform in FIFA's stupid voting and money sharing system

This could just wind up being a lateral move.

Really hope 'Murica and the Swiss find some **** on Platini and just tell that dude brah don't eem' try to get on dis ballot

Blotter is still going to be there for another 6-9 months from now... I am sure he will have everything set up for himself and Fifa when he leaves.... Why anybody thinks this will change the culture or do much is beyond me. It is nice he's gone though.

I missed teh game, but I read that urugay was crying towards the end wasting time and stuff.

I'm so glad that free kick went in and bit them in the ****.
