I see where both sides are coming from but Garber has to say something. He's the voice of the owners and it's natural that they feel some type of way if the entity they have invested billions in gets criticized. Pro/Rel would be nice if MLS wants to be "accepted" by Europe. However here in the US we have closed leagues with franchises and I don't see any owner here investing 100s of millions into a franchise only to have it relegated after a bad year. You'd go from playing the Galaxy, the Timbers or the Sounders to playing the Camden Shooters in front of 2k people. The sport is not popular enough to sustain that model. Earlier this year an NASL player got trade for hotel rooms iirc. The gap between MLS, NASL, USL Pro and lower is too wide. It could work in the future but for now, it's a pipe dream.
Sidenote: Could anyone familiar with the Brazilian league tell me why Ganso hasn't gone to Europe yet?
