🎾 OFFICIAL AGASSI RETRO THREAD 🎾

Everyone’s experience, or introduction to sneakers is different. We can only pinpoint when it started for ourselves. Hard to pinpoint the moment everyone went “yeah, this what’s hot, this what we rockin”.

Not really. We could figure this out.

So the era before shoes took off forreal, you describe as the beginning of sneaker culture?

Yes. Why not? The days of Puma Suedes and fat laces comes to mind.

It was EXTREMELY smaller back then but it was a thing.

Where's Bobbito to explain this better.

You cats give too much credit to drug dealers, it’s a bit disgusting.

They not the only ones who get or have gotten money and fly.

I'd lean towards early Hip Hop as what started it. Hip Hop and the streets were intertwined. Some happened to be drug dealers, some not.

It’s unfortunate, particularly being that so many hold being raised in the streets as a badge of a honor. But at the same time, it is what is. The drug dealers more than likely were influenced by the high profile black athletes and entertainers. But for those in the hoods and projects, it was the drug dealer we saw with it that made us want it.

Well I know I was influenced by the hustlers/rappers growing up in the city of Baltimore. I remember them folks saying they wouldn't spend a $100 dollars on gym shoes.

Baltimore ain’t the whole world bro, but I respect your experience.

My only gripe in this whole discussion is giving credit to drug dealers for starting the whole culture throughout the whole world/US.
