"Floyd is really good that's why he is my idol but in sparring I am able to keep up with him. He gives me more experience and more confidence in the ring." -- Mark Melligen.

I spoke to 23 year-old and hot prospect Mark Melligen Thursday night as he tapers off his training for his match this Saturday in Pinoy Power 2 at the Hard Rock in Vegas. Melligen will be opening the Pay-per-View card against last minute replacement Ernesto Zepeda. Melligen's original opponent Michel Rosales could not get a visa in time to make the fight.

Mark who was born in Bacolod City and lives in Cebu in the Philippines, trains in Las Vegas at the Mayweather Gym and have impressed a lot of the people over there most notably the man who pays the bills, Floyd Mayweather Jr. himself. Mark considers Floyd his idol and has learned a lot from the former Pound-for-Pound king of the sport.

Mark is excited and ready to go for his first ever Pay-per-View fight and I can sense it in his voice that he is eager to put on a great show for the Filipino crowd. Find out more about Mark as I have translated our interview which I conducted in Tagalog. You can also hear and read the interview in Tagalog by clicking the link below.

Writer's Note: I would also like to thank and credit Mark's trainer Ala Villamor for making this interview possible. Good luck to all of our fighters in Pinoy Power 2, and support all Filipino boxers!

******************************************

D Source - Mark, how are you doing?

Mark Melligen - I'm okay. I'm in condition and very ready for my fight.

D Source - How was your training for your fight this Saturday?

Mark Melligen - Our sessions right now are light because we are just down to conditioning, but for fight night I am really in great condition already.

D Source - Can you describe your fighting style to our listeners and fans especially to those who haven't seen you fight yet?

Mark Melligen - My style, I'm a stylish boxer.

D Source - Counter puncher?

Mark Melligen - Yea, I can counter punch and I can implement all kinds of styles. Watch me on Saturday so you can all really see what my style is.

D Source - Are you nervous for your first Pay-per-View fight here in the US?

Mark Melligen - Being nervous is normal but right now I am really excited for my fight since this is my first time on Pay-per-View. I'm not really all that nervous, it's more of I'm nervous because I am so excited. No nerves, I'm just ready to really fight.

D Source - It was reported that your opponent was just replaced and it's not going to be Michel Rosales anymore instead you'll be fighting Ernesto Zepeda. What can you say about that? Have you been able to prepare for your new opponent? Have you seen tapes of him?

Mark Melligen - I haven't really seen how my new opponent fights, but we are ready to fight no matter what. It's doesn't matter who they have us fight, we are ready for anyone.

D Source - You're training there with Floyd Mayweather Jr. at the Mayweather Gym in Las Vegas. I've also heard that you've been sparring with Floyd. Can you tell us how those go and how Floyd is?

Mark Melligen - Floyd is really good that's why he is my idol but in sparring I am able to keep up with him. He gives me more experience and more confidence in the ring.

D Source - What are the things Floyd has taught you?

Mark Melligen - Before when I just started, I was flat-footed and I had slow feet. He taught me how to use my feet. I learned his technique- his patience, to relax and his heart inside the ring. He's really something else, he's very quick.

D Source - I also found out that you sparred with Marco Maidana in the past, who recently beat Victor Ortiz. I also learned that you did very well against Maidana. Do you think you are ready to fight that level of competition in the ring if you with this Saturday.

Mark Melligen - With me, I just train hard no matter what or who they have me fight. I'll just train and do my best and get better.

D Source - Alright. Thanks for your time Mark and before we close, do you have anything to say to your fans here in the US and in the Philippines?

Mark Melligen - To all my fans here in the US and in the Philippines, thank you so much for your support. Please watch me together with Donaire and Concepcion this Saturday August 15. Thank you so much to everyone to all my family and friends who have supported me, Thank you.

Rafa Concepcion has a big heart, decent chin.... but not much anything else... well, he's aggressive. Perfect for Nonito's counter punching style.Nonito in 5
