Three National Telecasts Announced For 2009 Cal Football
Golden Bears to open upcoming season versus Maryland on ESPN2, while games versus USC and at Oregon to be televised by ABC.

May 2, 2009

BERKELEY - At least three California football games have been selected for broadcast on ABC or ESPN2 for the 2009 season, starting with the Golden Bears' season-opener against Maryland on Sept. 5, the Pacific-10 Conference announced.

The Cal-Maryland contest will kick off at 7 p.m. from Memorial Stadium and will be shown nationally on ESPN2. In addition, Cal's Sept. 26 game at Oregon will start at 12:30 p.m. and will be shown on ABC, while the USC at Cal matchup on Oct. 3 will start at 5 p.m. and also air on ABC.

Game times and television information for other Cal contests will be released when available. Preseason selections for games airing on FSN or Versus will be announced in early June, while additional games have the potential to be picked up by ABC, ESPN or ESPN2 through the 12- and six-day selection process.

Over the past two seasons, every Golden Bear football game has been televised live, and a total of 73 games have been on TV during Jeff Tedford's first seven years as head coach.

Although Cal has had numerous games start at 5 p.m. in Memorial Stadium the last several years, the Maryland contest will be the first to kick off at 7 p.m. in Berkeley since the Bears defeated Washington State, 20-17, on Nov. 3, 2007.

Season tickets for the 2009 Cal football season are now on sale, starting as low as $99. To purchase tickets, click on the Tickets link at CalBears.com or call (800) GO BEARS.

Yeah. If Randall was as fast on the field as he is on the track, he'd be a Trojan right now no doubt. There's a reason why he flippedhis commitment to the Bruins last minute; the coaches at SC didn't believe he was a true deep-threat WR and told him they wanted him in the secondary.

ATHENS, Ga. --- Two University of Georgia football players will
incur suspensions due to violation of team rules, according to an
announcement Saturday by Bulldog head coach Mark Richt.

Junior tight end Bruce Figgins has received a six-game suspension
and redshirt sophomore defensive end Justin Houston has been suspended for
two games. A third player, junior wide receiver Tony Wilson, also violated
team rules; however, he is in the process of being medically disqualified
from competition due to slow recovery from a severe ankle injury originally
suffered in the spring of 2008.

More PT for Orson Charles...
Florida Grad Principal doing the Hokey Pahokee
Kiffin eventually issued a statement of apology to those he offended, and life went on.

But despite Kiffin's apology, the Pahokee Chamber of Commerce still requested Kiffin send a letter of apology to "the proud, hard working residents of Pahokee, the professional staff of Pahokee Middle-Senior High School, and the dedicated coaching staff of PHS".

Not sure if that ever happened (or even that it needed to).

In his letter to Kiffin, Pahokee Chamber of Commerce President, Lewis Pope III stated that the residents of Pahokee had great concern over Kiffin's comments. Pope writes, "For Coach Kiffin to express these negative concerns in a public format were unprofessional and only serve to tarnish both schools and their football programs".

Speaking of being "unprofessional" and "tarnishing a school"...

This past week, SoFLAfootball.com reported coaches from Tennessee made a trip to Pahokee to recruit. Upon their arrival, the principal of Pahokee high school "would not allow [the coaches] in the school".

When asked about the incident, Pahokee lineman and Volunteer recruit Antonio Ford commented:

"The principal kicked them out because he's still mad at the coach or something like that".

The principal of Pahokee, Ariel Alejo was apparently upset at comments Kiffin made in February referencing the school during a recruiting battle for Nu'Keese Richardson:

"Someone at the school was going to screw it up. The fax machine wouldn't work, or they would have changed signatures, all the things that go on in Pahokee."

But for as much negative press as Lane Kiffin has received, nobody seems to be pointing out the fact that he may have been right all along.

Ariel Alejo isn't simply the principal of Pahokee High School, but he is also a graduate of the University of Florida (and a Gator fan). How much of a Gator fan is he? His personal page links to Pahokee's index page through a Florida Gator icon.

No wonder he was upset when Tennessee got Nu'Keese Richardson instead of his Gators.

This smells of an agenda to me, with Ariel being a publicized spokesman for the High School as well as a Gator Booster.

...
In the end, antics of the Ariel Alejo only makes one wonder if Kiffin knew something the rest of us didn't about some of the folks in Pahokee.

I didnt know Mack moved Chiles to WR this off season...

eek.gif
I wanna see if he can replace what Quan did out there.

Somebody needs to check Mr. Principal's bank accounts. Bectcha there's some unaccounted for revenue stream that hasn't been reported to the IRS.Somebody should give the IRS a call.

Wow.

Gad damn gates.

Imagine what's going to go on now since Dunkley is at Pahokee and seems to have legit interest in UF.

I mean, they would have a point if Pahokee/Glade Central etc, were sending tons and tons of players to UF and #*#$ like that. (Yeah, they gotFreddy T and recently JJ but still)

But the Muck is Cane/Nole country if I'm not mistaken?

Men's Track: Footballers Chekwa, Thomas propel relay team to victory

Issue date: 5/4/09

The Ohio State men's track team pulled out all the stops at the Jesse Owens Track Classic this weekend. Football players and Olympic trail competitors were unleashed on the competition.

The men's 4x100-meter relay finally reached the regional qualifying marks, winning with a time of 40.51 seconds.

The 4x100 was a "better race for me. I had everyone on the team counting on me," junior Stephen Robinson said.

The men received two additional runners in football players Chimdi Chekwa and Lamaar Thomas.

"They've only had five days to work with the team," coach Robert Gary said. "We didn't even know the line-up until yesterday."

The new team ran the second fastest time in the Big Ten.
