Rozier says he's coming to Tennessee
Quarterback Mike Rozier will begin his football career anew at Tennessee this fall.

The former pitcher in the Boston Red Sox organization told UT coaches that he will enroll for the first session of summer school in June after visitingpractice on Thursday.

"I committed yesterday," the 6-foot-5, 245-pound Rozier said Friday. "I told them I was coming there. It was between them and SouthCarolina.

"I'm a pure pocket passer. They have a pro-style offense, and I think it fitted me well."

The former standout at Henry County High School in Stockbridge, Ga., signed with North Carolina in February of 2004. However, Rozier was drafted in the 12thround of the 2004 draft by the Red Sox in June and agent Scott Boras negotiated a $1.5 million signing bonus to sway him from football.

Rozier, 23, chose UT over South Carolina. He will be considered a walk-on although the Red Sox are contractually obligated to pay for his scholarship. Hewill have four years of eligibility.

The left-hander's minor league career lasted from 2005 to 2008. He made it to Class AA Portland in 2006, but pitched only 30 innings last season betweenClass A Greenville and in the Gulf Coast League.

Once Rozier showed up on UT's campus, he was quickly impressed with UT's coaches and their fast-paced practice. Head coach Lane Kiffin'spro-style offense also played a part.

"They're busting your butt but it was a fun environment," Rozier said. "I thought the offense fitted me better than SouthCarolina."

Rozier said the opportunity to play quickly was an important factor in his decision.

"You can tell they don't have that many quarterbacks," Rozier said. "They (UT's coaches) just said it would depend on how I picked upthe offense and how I did. It's pretty much on how I do."

UT has three scholarship quarterbacks on its roster: senior Jonathan Crompton, junior Nick Stephens and sophomore B.J. Coleman.

Rozier believes he has the ability to play quarterback at UT. Fundamentals are another issue.

"My arm strength and throwing is still there," Rozier said. "I've been working on my footwork and my mechanics."

Rozier was released by the Red Sox earlier this month and still finds it a bit odd that he'll be playing football again.

"It is kind of weird," he said. "After I signed with baseball, I didn't think I would ever be going back to football. But things happenfor a reason.

Rozier must have felt like a prospect all over again as he watched UT's practice closely from the sidelines on Thursday.

"It was great," Rozier said. "Practice was a lot of fun, a lot of enthusiasm. The whole day was really fun. They made it fun for me. Love thecampus. Being around the coaches, it was a great experience."

When guys come in like Rozier, they have the regular 4 years of eligibility right?

Yeah I was gonna say, if he played just under 200 last season, there's no way that was 205...

John Brantley looked great in the Orange and Blue game yesterday.

Could be the 3rd best QB in the SEC behind Tebow and Snead.

"Terrell Buckley is the man when you talk about a player who has experienced what it takes to play not only in college, but in the NFL. In fact, we were actually talking about different techniques and he asked me how I would line up for a certain situation and I showed him. He then said no, you need to line up this way because in this package it will help you more get off the line of scrimmage better. The personal meeting with him was an unbelievable experience and really caught me off guard. He likes the swagger and confidence I play because as he says you have to bring that anytime you're a defensive back. The visit as a whole was perfect."

Talk about it in The Tribal Council
St. Thomas Aquinas defensive back Cody Riggs took his first visit to South Bend this weekend and spent plenty of time with current players and former teammates on his visit. FV has the latest on Riggs' as the talented cornerback breaks down his experience. But was it enough to land the lead for Notre Dame?

STA's Cody Riggs was in South Bend this weekend
When it comes to getting familiar with the Notre Dame program, St. Thomas Aquinas defensive back Cody Riggs doesn't have to go far with his uncle Braynard 'Bobby' Brown being a former Irish player. But the end result was nothing but high marks for Notre Dame.

"I loved it. Everything was great. I got a chance to see all the facilities and spend some good time with defensive backs coach Corwin Brown who is my main recruiter. He coaches with a lot of excitement and passion, so that really impressed me while watching the practices. I thought all the defensive backs did well. My uncle also went to Notre Dame, so he just tells me what a great experience it is in life there, not only with football, but in the real world as well. He mentions how the school prepares you so well for life and how the connections and bonds you build there is a lifetime experience," said Riggs.

Riggs, who led the St. Thomas Aquinas Raiders last year with eight interceptions and back-to-back 5A State Championships was also blown away about the academics at Notre Dame.

"Academics have always been important to me and Notre Dame is one of the best around. As far as the team, I like the different schemes Notre Dame runs on defense because it's basically a lot of what we run at St. Thomas Aquinas. Everything was very impressive. I had a great time and bonded really well with the coaches and players. Right now I would have to say Notre Dame is definitely my leader."

Throughout most of the weekend, Riggs got a chance to bond with several current players including, former teammates and former Notre Dame greats, which made the trip even that more rewarding.

"That was pretty awesome just seeing former players like Sam Young who played at St. Thomas Aquinas and Daniel Wenger. I also liked the fact that former greats Jim Brown and Tony Rice were there. Gail Sayers even though he didn't play at Notre Dame was also there. When you see former players come back like that it gives you a very good indication about the type of program Notre Dame is. They have a great combination of tradition, atmosphere and coaches. I hung out most of the weekend with Armando Allen who also played in Florida. He just gave me the run down about what it's like to play there. You could just tell with all the players how much they love it there."

Next up for Riggs will be a visit starting next Thursday to Ohio State, and much like this weekend, the talented 5-foot-9, 165 pound corner is focused on how well he fits into the system and how he bonds with the coaches.

"I'll be looking at pretty much the same stuff I looked for this weekend at Notre Dame. Right now, it's about building the relationships with the coaches and getting that feeling that this is the place I want to be at. I'm looking forward to the visit. As far as visits go, that's probably it for me until spring football starts and then I will probably schedule some more trips.
Cody is the goods, Allen.

Riggs is ridiculous, great to hear him say we're his leader. It'd be a great class in the secondary if we can land riggs, wood, and Boyd
