2001 Jordan Releases Appreciation

i went back to this year because i was thinking about how i used to look forward to summer time jordan releases and how recently they pretty much suck.

i thought it was because im not a kid in school anymore where heat would drop leading up to the summer and everyone was wearing heat. especially that april when everyone either had the red XI lows or the blue ones. and not to mention how well received the XVI lows were after ja rule rocked them in the im real music video with j lo...

but i decided to check out the release calendar for the year i started collecting/buying sneakers and 

 what a year 2001 was.

is there even a better release year?

I wouldn't collect for another 2 years. I remember the XVIs when I was 10, cuz my cousin had em on. I hated all my cousins cuz they always had AJ sigs yearly. While I was wearing Air Maxes or Air Walks . Joints were cold. I remember being amused by the shroud. 2001 was a great year.

Very good year. Also during that time there were still random pairs from 2000 around so coupled with this year it was 

. I'm not an AJ 1 fan, but them midnight navy 1's are def underrated. They sold faster than the blk/red and blk/royal 1's that year. I still want a pair of them. I had pairs of blk/red and white/navy XVI's stashed at work and didn't cop. Stupid me. Got colombia's for free, Cool greys for $75, and TWO guaranteed pairs of blk/red XI's for $75 a pop. Not to mention in the summer of 01 I got a pair of nike tearaway pants, AJ VI midnight navy, and a pair of black foamposite pros for $125. That had to be my single greatest pickup day. I also had multiple chances to cop the blk cement III's for $60, then for $30. I had pair in my stash, but I traded it for the foam pros. I also got offered a second pair of 00 SJ and Laney V's, but passed on those that summer. Good times, good times...

This thread is GOAT worthy. 2001 was a very expensive year for me.

The only 01 shoe I have in my collection atm.

 2001 was definitely a great year for me collecting. Got lucky with the cool greys (that madness). BC3s, 16's, and Bred 11's. Memories.

Awesome year for kicks from Jordan/Nike.

Still got my Black/Cement IIIs & Blk/Red XIs that I cop on release day that year & I eventually bought Blk/Red XVIs on the Bay in '05.

That was my Jr year in HS so I had a lot of those pairs.  Great year! My favorites were the BC 3s tho.  I remember rocking them in summer league games that year

i just find it crazy that you could argue that half the releases from 2001 would be a main focal point release in any year...

this may have even been the same year the hyperflight dropped and although not a jordan, if you were around NT those days you remember how much hype that shoe had.

Damn what a great year still have my playoff 11s... they held up amazing! Got snakeskins on sale and sold them on eBay in like '04... still regret it til this day. Copped mochas heavily discounted and picked up a pair of Cherrywood's.

BC 3s, B/Royal 1s, XV1s, XIs, etc. quality, colours n availability(I'm still sick of that 'Jordan face' box tho)

Also, Nike was dropping the FP3, Hyperflights, Sig Players, MORF, second gen. Shox etc.. n not every shoe was covered w/a giant swoosh...
Reebok was killin it with the Answer IV, Adidas had both Kobe n T-mac ..n And1 was still on the come up with Tai Chis n plenty of slip-ons

i remember when Marbury rocked the navy white ones on the nets i had to have them. they ended up being a footlocker exclusive

the morf shoes were crazy. i remember when i would play around with the URL and change the numbers and pics of different shoes would pop up that was back when nikestore was niketown lol. and i found the Kidd32 morf glove and i thought it was so sick.
