Prince broke off contact with his father, Cecil Fielder, when Cecil took $200,000 of Prince's $2.4 million signing bonus that he received in 2002. Prince claimed that his father had stolen from him. Cecil blamed his ex-wife for turning Prince against him. Despite efforts from Cecil to regain communication with his son, the father and son did not speak for nearly 7 years. However, reporters and fans alike were shocked when Prince was seen sitting with Cecil on July 13, 2009 at the State Farm Home Run Derby. Those close to the Fielders confirmed that the two had reconciled.[sup][2][/sup]
