And so we begin another year...hopefully i'll be around to postmore often. How's it goin', guys?

Wlad and Hayden? Sooooo random, props to Wlad for pulling that off though.
Andre Berto stopped caring

AKA Collazo put the fear of god into him...

P.S. I REALLY need to update my Team Boxing sig.

David Haye - in November 2008, Haye captured the WBA heavyweight crown with a 12 round majority decision win over Nikolay Valuev. Haye, a small heavyweight at only 6'3 217, used a combination of throwing pot shots and using movement to get the win. Later, Haye revealed that he had injured his hand early in the fight which caused him to be much more economical with his punches than he wanted to be.

Excuses aside, Haye will have to fight much better than that in 2010, if he wants to hold onto the title. Haye has a fight coming up against 37 - soon to be 38 on January 4th - in the early part of 2010. Haye will have to be busier against Ruiz than he was in his fight with Valuev or else there's a good chance that he'll lose. Haye doesn't have the greatest of boxing skills, so he's going to have to hope he can get Ruiz out of there at some point in the fight. If not, then Haye will have lot of problems and take punishment from Ruiz.

I think Haye can win this fight, but he'll have to be much more aggressive than he looked in his fights with Monte Barrett and Valuev. Ruiz can't be stopped by being hit with occasional pot shots. It will take a concerted effort on Haye's part if he wants to beat him or take him out. The danger here is that Ruiz has good power and arguably better stamina than Haye. If he can last until the later rounds, Ruiz will have a better than average chance of beating Haye. However, if Haye does get by Ruiz, he says he wants to fight one of the Klitschko brothers later in the year. That will be interesting to see.

It will likely be Vitali Klitschko whom he meets up with, and I don't like Haye's chances at all in that fight. In fact, I think Haye will be completely blown out by Vitali in the fight and stopped early on. I think Haye can last awhile if he chooses to run all night long, but it won't make him look good running, so I'm hoping he chooses to stand his ground and go out and swinging in the first or 2nd rounds.

That's about all I can see the fight lasting. Vitali is just too big, too sturdy of chin and too tough for a small heavyweight like Haye to beat in my view. Haye would have a much better chance against Wladimir Klitschko, who has better offensive skills than his brother Vitali, but a much weaker chin. For Haye to get to Wladimir, he will have to beat Vitali first, and I don't see that happening in this lifetime.

Carl Froch - 2009 was a good year for the 32-year-old Froch (26-0, 20 KO's). He defeated Jermain Taylor and Andre Dirrell to retain his World Boxing Council super middleweight title. However, Froch looked anything but impressive in either of the fights, and by many accounts, he lost the fight with Dirrell in October. Froch snatched a victory over Taylor with a come from behind 12th round knockout in April, a fight in which Froch was knocked down and outclassed in the first half of the fight. He needed a knockout to win in the 12th, and did a great job of getting it.

However, Froch looked poor against Dirrell. Say what you want about Dirrell's spoiling tactics, there's little question that Froch looked slow, awkward and had problems connecting with his shots. He somehow was able to get squeak out a narrow 12 round split decision fighting in front of his home crowd in Nottingham, England, but it wasn't the kind of performance that gave one the impression that Froch will be holding onto his title for long. Indeed, I would favor Dirrell if they were to fight again as long as the fight took place outside of Nottingham. Froch has a fight coming up on April 17th against former WBA super middleweight champion Mikkel Kessler in Denmark. Kessler is coming off an 11 round technical decision loss to Andre Ward in November, a fight where Kessler was dominated from start to finish.

There are some boxing writers who feel that Kessler has aged in the past year and lost some of his skills to the point where he could be ripe to be beaten by Froch. While I do think Kessler has degraded somewhat, I think his loss to Ward had nothing to do with that. I think Kessler would never have beaten a talented fighter like Ward no matter what part of his career the fight took place.

I see Kessler as being about 95% of what he was when he faced Joe Calzaghe two years ago in 2007. That was considered to be the prime for Kessler. I think there's a huge gulf in talent between Kessler and Froch, and even if Kessler has lost 5% or slightly more with the natural aging process, I think he has more than enough to totally dominate Froch in April.

Kessler is too fast and too skilled to be taken out by a slugger like Froch. So I see Froch losing that fight, losing his title and then having to face Arthur Abraham later in the year. I see Froch losing that fight too. Froch will likely make the mistake of trying to go right at the power punching Abraham and wind up getting knocked down or possibly knocked out.

Amir Khan - Of the top three British fighters, I see Khan as being the first to be derailed in 2010. Khan has a mandatory defense coming up against the knockout artist Marcos Maidana in 2010, and unless Khan is able to somehow sidestep that fight for now so that he can take on the light hitting Paulie Malignaggi, I see Khan being destroyed by Maidana. Khan had a great 2009, beating ring legend Marco Antonio Barrera, defeating WBA light welterweight champion Andriy Kotelnik , and destroying a badly over-matched Dmitry Salita. In each case, however, these fighters had little power to speak of to challenge Khan's weak chin. That won't be the case when/if Khan steps in the ring with Maidana. Khan will be facing a puncher with even greater power than Colombian Breidis Prescott, who destroyed Khan in a 1st round knockout in 2008.

I think Khan can do well as long as he's kept away from big punchers like Maidana and Prescott. Khan has better skills than the vast majority of light welterweights in the division, except for a few like Timothy Bradley, Devon Alexander and Kendall Holt. However, Khan's weakness is his chin, and if he's put in with a big puncher where he will have to fight for his life, I just don't like his chances.

As such, if Khan's management can keep him out of the ring with Maidana and other power punchers, I think Khan will have great success in 2010. However, for that to happen, Khan will likely have to vacate his WBA light welterweight title, because he'll have to fight Maidana sooner or later in the year or else risk getting stripped of his title.

Boxing wishes for 2010

Friday, January 1, 2010 | Print Entry

Another new year is upon us, so here are some of the things I'd like to see in boxing in 2010:

• For everybody involved to come their senses and get the Manny Pacquiao-Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight done already. Enough with the drug testing nonsense. Mayweather shouldn't be making accusations without a shred of proof as he tries to discredit all of Pacquiao's great accomplishments, nor should he try to circumvent the Nevada rules by asking for blood tests when the commission has never asked for them. Likewise, if Pacquiao has nothing to hide, what's the big deal about random blood testing? They should flip a coin and stop holding the sports world hostage. If the fighters, Top Rank's Bob Arum, Golden Boy's Richard Schaefer and advisers Al Haymon, Leonard Ellerbe and Michael Koncz find a way to screw up one of the biggest fights in boxing history, a pox on all of them.

• For Pacquiao-Mayweather to live up to expectations if it gets done.

• For Top Rank's Todd duBoef and Golden Boy's Bruce Binkow to get the credit they will deserve for being the only sane ones in the bunch trying to save Pacquiao-Mayweather.

• And if Pacquiao-Mayweather takes place, a strong undercard, not the garbage we've seen on too many pay-per-views in recent years.

• For Bernard Hopkins to either retire or fight Tomasz Adamek. And for HBO to be proactive about buying the fight instead of talking about all kinds of other pointless fights for Hopkins.

• Retirement for Roy Jones and Evander Holyfield.

• The continued enjoyment of retirement for Oscar De La Hoya, who got out at just the right time.

• For Jermain Taylor the strength to get out before it's too late.

• Not only a happy new year, but a healthy one, for Kelly Pavlik.

• For Pavlik and Paul Williams to finally meet in the only middleweight fight that really matters right now, and for Sergio Martinez to get the winner.

• For a heavyweight to come along who might to be able to be at least remotely competitive with Wladimir or Vitali Klitschko.

• Meaningful fights for Nonito Donaire, Sakio Bika, Troy Ross and Humberto Soto.

• Successful comebacks for Miguel Cotto and Jorge Linares.

• For Shane Mosley not to have to wait a year again for his next fight, regardless of the outcome of his Jan. 30 bout with Andre Berto.

• A new choice of beverage for Juan Manuel Marquez.

• For Versus to reconsider its abandonment of boxing coverage.

• For at least some of promoter Lou DiBella's nice stable of prospects to pan out.

• For promoter Gary Shaw to take a chill pill or 10.

• An Ivan Calderon-Brian Viloria junior flyweight unification fight.

• That nobody gets hurt in the fourth fight between Israel Vazquez and Rafael Marquez.

• A bigger programming budget for ESPN's Doug Loughrey.

• Smooth sailing for the remainder of Ken Hershman's baby, the Super Six World Boxing Classic on Showtime.

• For HBO's Ross Greenburg to continue what he did for the most part in 2009 -- allocate the network's vast resources for the best fights, not simply the best fighters.

• Peace for the families of Arturo Gatti, Alexis Arguello and Vernon Forrest in the year following their tragic deaths.

• For HBO to find a replacement for Artie Curry. But then I realized replacing him is impossible.

• For nobody to forget the grace that the family of junior featherweight Francisco "Paco" Rodriguez showed when it saved the lives of at least eight people by donating his organs after he died from injuries suffered in a November fight.

• A pardon for Jack Johnson.

• For Antonio Margarito to come clean about his cheating before he dare ask for a license again.

• For American fight fans to get a look at Hozumi Hasegawa and Marco Huck.

• A big fight in the future for Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to host at his billion dollar-plus stadium. Same for Yankee Stadium.

• For Alfredo "Perro" Angulo to keep making every one of his fights exciting.

• For HBO to bring back the old "World Championship Boxing" music. You don't mess with perfection.

• For mouthy paper titleholder David Haye to stop yapping about the Klitschkos and then running from them when offered a shot.

• That we never again see Gale Van Hoy, Pierre Benoist, Alan Davis or Benoit Roussel anywhere near ringside with a pencil in hand judging a fight after the obscene scorecards they turned in 2009.

• A big-name opponent for Timothy Bradley Jr. and Celestino Caballero to fight.

• An Amir Khan-Paulie Malignaggi fight at Madison Square Garden.

• For prospect of the year Daniel Jacobs to live up the hype.

• Success for Warriors Boxing's Leon Margules, now that he's struck out on his own.

• As usual, for Don King to either get off his butt and actually promote Devon Alexander or give the kid a release and let him go with somebody who is willing to do the job.

• A lifetime contract for HBO's Larry Merchant.

• That Cuban defectors Guillermo Rigondeaux and Erislandy Lara find as much success in the pros as they did as amateurs.

• One more chance for Joel "Love Child" Julio.

• For a few more doses of the hilarious trash talk that usually comes from Edison Miranda and Vic Darchinyan before a fight.

• For James Kirkland to learn from his mistakes.

• For B.J. Flores to step up and fight a real opponent instead of just talking endlessly about it.

• Another chance for Victor Ortiz to prove he has heart.

• A new song and a few less beers for Ricky Hatton.

• A match between Cristobal Arreola and David Tua with the winner to fight Samuel Peter.

• Another Brazilian star for Artie Pelullo to promote.

• A notable opponent under age 40 for Chad Dawson, and for Jean Pascal's shoulder injury to heal so he can become that guy for Dawson.

• A continued hot streak for Top Rank matchmaker Brad "Abdul" Goodman.

• That Jay Larkin and Nick Charles beat cancer and that Genaro Hernandez remains free of the vicious disease.

• Enough prospects to go around for managers Shelly Finkel and Cameron Dunkin to sign.

• For Sampson Lewkowicz to keep unearthing quality fighters overseas and bringing them here.

• More big crowds in Oakland for Andre Ward fights.

• Bankruptcy for the sanctioning organizations.

• For Fight Freaks everywhere, great fights all year long.

• And, as usual, for peace on Earth, but not inside the ring.
Happy New Year.

I am also looking forward for another great year of boxing. I hope pacquiao-mayweather doesnt fall through and gets finalized.

Does anybody know what the Fight of the Year was? so many good ones.

Most places had JMM/Diaz as the FOTY.

Green's new offer to Hopkins

By Ray Wheatley - World of Boxing

Former WBA light heavyweight champion and current IBO cruiserweight champion Danny Green is doing his best to make a fight with Bernard Hopkins happen by taking a smaller purse than the future Hall of Famer. Green originally offered a 50-50 split of a multi million dollar purse with Hopkins and this offer was accepted but later the American had requested a 60-40 split in his favour after it was revealed HBO would televise the fight on prime time USA television. Green said, "When I left the States two weeks ago we had an agreement that whatever goes into the pot we were 50-50 which is what we did with Roy Jones. And after the momentum of the Roy Jones fight, I could fight SpongeBob SquarePants and still make good money. But it's not about the money for me. It's about continuing to try to build a legacy and knocking out two future hall-of-fame fighters. Knocking out two legends, bringing two legends to my backyard and helping the sport of boxing. I spoke to Bernard again on Christmas Eve and then I had the Sydney to Hobart, so I haven't spoken to him for the past week. I've got one more phone call to make to him to try to make this happen. I'm confident that he's going to take this deal. He's squabbling over making millions. Let's just make it happen and get it on!"

Shoot, i've barely been around the past year. I can't in good conscience bust out TheProfessor when i haven't been dropping anyknowledge. All though you could make the argument i wasn't exactly dropping great knowledge before hand either, with my inspired pics of DLH and Cottoover Manny. Boy i wish i could have those back

And i can't shake the feeling that those Hayden/Klit pictures are fake. The pairing is just soo random its wrinkling my brain.

They should put Gunna on the TMZ payroll, I think he was the one that mentioned something about the two of them being together last year
