But how many types of players are there in this league though? Only Lebron, and KD don't need a team finely tailored to their skillsets, but they still need the right pieces and system to thrive. Great players sometimes have to be put in the perfect situations to win. Dirk was not transcendent, but he had the perfect pieces around him that complemented his strengths and weaknesses as a player.
Dwight has been the man on a contender. I would say you can build around him. Some deep playoff runs and a trip to the Finals is damn good to me.

You need a great PG to play alongside Harden (ball-dominant) and Dwight (PNR player). IMO

let's break this down to show you how foolish you sound. let me also explain than i am not personally a jeremy lin fan.

he's played 2 seasons where he's actually been a rotation player. 1st season being the knicks, and last year with the rockets. if by always injured when the playoffs come around, you mean he missed the last 20 or so games of the regular season with the knicks, excluding the playoffs and he played the first 3 games of hou-okc series last year, got benched, and came back to play game 6, then yeah he's somehow always injured when the playoffs roll around
right. he clearly knew that he was playing so well, and didn't want to jeopardize any upcoming contract he might get from his play, that he underwent season ending knee surgery. you know, so that teams would be inclined to give him a big contract. it's odd you don't see more players in contract years play well for a stretch, then undergo knee surgery to prevent themselves from having a bad stretch of games and jeopardizing any contract coming their way.
yup. he was so scared of facing sefolosha and westbrook, that he "faked an injury" after the rockets went down 3-0 in the series. his fear of russell westbrook made him "fake an injury" after game 3, even though westbrook only played the first 2 games. what a smart guy.

guys like lebron/kd/cp3/curry/wade/kobe can replace any player of their position on any team and make that team better, they can adjust their style of play to fit in. cant say that about dwight, yes he will make any defense better but the team will need to make adjustments and build around him perfectly to cover up what he lacks on offense. because the kind of team that dwight needs to make the most of his talent is so specific, you (the team) need to adapt to him rather than him adapting to you

Not to antagonize the situation any further,
but I was seriously wondering where Lin was tonight.
I did notice that once Russ was out in the playoffs, Lin "miraculously" felt well enough to play.
Thought that was peculiar.

isn't that the case for most if not all big men though? considering they can't really create their own shots because they depend on other players to get them the ball, and how they're defended is heavily centered around the players on the court with them.
for instance : steph curry. you surround him with other shooters and he has free reign to move wherever. if he drives, you can't really commit to double because you leave a shooter.
if you have big men around him, he can PnR, run off a million screens etc.
with dwight, you either have shooters around him or you don't. if you do, you can't double him. if you don't, you can double him. there just happen to be very very few guys like dwight/hibbert in the game now.
