Bret Bielema Fired Shot At Nick Saban, Pointing Out He Was a Better Big Ten Coach
All, College Football Ty Duffy March 30th. 2013, 1:35pm

Bret Bielema spoke to the Saline County Razorback Club. He deployed the customary bluster for such situations, claiming he came to Arkansas to win SEC Titles. He also threw in a barb at Nick Saban, pointing out how he was a much better Big Ten coach than Saban was at Michigan State.

“I came to the SEC for a variety of reasons, but the major one in my mind was to win an SEC championship.”

The new head Hog, hired in December from Wisconsin, then addressed two-time defending national champion Alabama and Coach Nick Saban. “The reason the SEC is talked about all the time is one team, because of their dominance. But I didn’t come here to play Alabama. I came here to beat Alabama.

“You can take Saban’s record when he was at Michigan State and when he was a coach in the Big Ten and put it against mine, and he can’t compare.”

He is right. Their records in the Big Ten don’t compare, but neither do their situations. Saban inherited a Michigan State program in disarray from decline and sanctions. Bielema took the reins of the strong, stable program Barry Alvarez built. Saban coached when the Big Ten was at its apex. Ohio State, Michigan and Penn State were at full bore. Northwestern and Wisconsin produced conference title winners. Even Purdue became a consistent Top 25 team for a few years. Bielema coached when the Big Ten hit bottom. Penn State was erratic. Michigan plummeted. Ohio State was decimated by scandal and neutralized by sanctions.

Bielema had more success, but in an environment far more conducive to it. Given the choice between 1995 Nick Saban and 2006 Bret Bielema, many would still choose the former. Arkansas’ new coach is confident now. We’ll see how cocksure he is when he travels to Tuscaloosa, after a three game stretch of Texas A&M, at Florida and South Carolina.

The Gators keep losing to lesser ranked competition.

Florida can enjoy this win and their trip to the Elite 8 by all means.  Just bear in mind that Dunk City didn’t leave before they ****** your girlfriend.  We’ll call it a tie I guess.

I don't even care if that "article" is presumptive.  UF lost.

Where have I been, I didn't even realize Pendergast moved Dion Bailey and some other guys to safety.

Iron Man/Jus, this a good move?  How's the defense looking?

I'm hearing Wittek is looking like the starter again.  Or will he Cody (and Max B.) split snaps?

Ask and ye shall receive....

Michigan redshirt sophomore quarterback Russell Bellomy has suffered an ACL tear in spring practice, TheWolverine.com has learned and U-M has confirmed.

Associated Press
Bellomy appeared in five games last season as Denard Robinson's backup, completing 4 of 21 attempts for 46 yards with four interceptions. He played the final few minutes of the second quarter and the entire second half against Nebraska, completing just 3 of 16 attempts with three picks in a 23-9 loss to the Cornhuskers.

Bellomy did not appear in another game all season, for many the scapegoat of the loss to NU and the reason Michigan did not qualify for the Big Ten Championship. Both head coach Brady Hoke and offensive coordinator Al Borges had said this spring that the Texan was aware of the perception by fans and the media but that he was determined to change those opinions.

With redshirt junior Devin Gardner slated to start for the Maize and Blue, Bellomy was expected to compete for the No. 2 job with true freshman Shane Morris.

He is the second Wolverine to suffer an ACL injury this spring, joining redshirt junior linebacker Jake Ryan, who is expected to miss all of the 2013 season.

"It's unfortunate, especially for a kid who battled through a tough injury last season and was having a really good spring," said Hoke. "We'll continue to support Russell and look forward to having him back on the field."

Hope Bellomy can eventually turn in to something at Michigan, but my expectations are pretty low for him. He would have been a much better fit at Purdue. Not sure he's good enough to play at Michigan.
