2013 New York Mets Season Thread

Man, Ike stinks. his swing is terrible. Can't believe he actually went after bad pitches. :{

Wheeler looked so comfortable tonight. Good control. Lagares :hat Definitely earned the starting CF spot.

EDIT: Great win. It's been ages since we won an extra innings game. I think... #feelsgoodman

Dominic Smith bro.

Hopefully up in three seasons, but you can't put a lot of stock into someone just drafted.

Exactly. I'm not even considering anyone for the future until they reach AA. Now that it's been mentioned, I wonder about Brandon Nimmo. 1st round pick who didn't even have a HS team to play for in Montana (I think that's his background), voted in the futures game by the fan vote. From what I know of the minors, there's a pretty big jump up in quality of pitching when you get to AA ball. Just cause a kid can hit fastballs doesn't mean anything til he faces quality pitching.

Ike is so disappointing. I like the guy and apparently so does the team and management but I think they're giving him too much leeway. I got tired of reading Collins & Hudgens making excuses for him with how he was getting close to returning to form at the plate before he was finally sent down when it was clear dude was completely lost.

They have worn each of those colors at least once this season. All black for John Franco night and all orange yesterday.

Didn't realize they wore the black this season. I wonder if the black jerseys still have that glacier twill on the lettering since they ditched that material for all the other jerseys in 2012 when they dropped the black shadow.

I liked the black jerseys though, the Piazza era, late 90's/early 2000's is what I think about when I see the black jerseys. I have no problem with them wearing them a few times a season but limit that number. The mets have way to many different uniforms lol

That was a game they usually would find a way to lose. Around this time last year, the team was in full out free fall play like crap mode. I like the fact that their still battling and weathering the storm compared how they've played following the all star break in previous years. I think if they keep playing hard and battling every night this season regardless of how they finish will be a huge building block moving forward.

I don't like the black, does not belong with the Mets colors (same with the Knicks).

Mejia tonight.

I liked the black at the time when I was younger. At the time, 98-99 I thought they were the coolest looking jerseys in baseball but when I got older I realized they were a phase from when alot of teams implemented a black jersey.

I prefer the traditional pinstripe and grey roads over anything.

They've phased the black jerseys out though, they've only worn them about twice the past 2 seasons if I'm not mistaken.

There is no way with a straight face they can bring back Ike next year. Move Murphy to 1st and Flores to second. That should work.

Only way Murphy would even stay at 1st base is if he hits WELL over .300 since he does not hit for power.

The trading deadline is almost closing, teams are showing more interest in Byrd. If they trade him, Mets better get something good.

You only trade him for something more in return IMO, can't sell low nor should they.

WELL over .300? Uh....How much we talkin' bout Mez?

Let's take a 1st-baseman that we can compare him to. Think the obvious comparison here is James Loney whom is batting .316, good for 5th in the AL.

Don't see Murphy doing much better than Loney, he's batting .282 which is borderline top 20 in the NL. Think ~.300 would be his ceiling.

You can get away with a lack of power when you have power in other areas, but the Mets don't have that luxury so I'm not sure where Murphy fits in besides 2nd base.

You're 1st baseman can't hit under .300 when his career high in homeruns is 12, and I'm a Murphy fan.
