Couple of things:
1. 3 teams are undoubtedly worse than us (Philly, Boston, Knicks). Just have to stay in 4th. The likelihood that 1 team jumps from 5th or better to Top 3 is good, but two teams 5th or better getting to the Top 3 is a VERY VERY VERY LONGSHOT. So with Minny, that would put us 5th. Yes, we are ahead of Boston now, but they will only get worse.
2. I think Reggie Jackson is now up for grabs, and may even end up costing less. Could be a target.
Why?
Simple Mathmatics. Reggie is a RFA in 2015.
Durant is a FA in 2016.
Ibaka & Westbrook FA in 2017.
Westbrook & Durant will be maxed out. Probably $25mil each. Then Ibaka is going to command over $15mil - under $20mil. That's $70mil right there.
Reggie Jackson RFA is going to cost the Thunder $12 - 13mil if they truly want to keep Reggie Jackson.
Butttttt now you add in Dion Waiters, who is a RFA in 2016... Then Steven Adams RFA in 2017. That's going to add a lot of money.
If the Thunder don't trade Waiters in a move before the deadline, they may have to just let Reggie Jackson go based on pure math.
And then watch KD go in 2016.
Again goes to the point that Presti really screwed up by not amnestying Perkins before 2012-13, and tried to get another couple years of Russ/Harden/KD/Ibaka before tax would force him to deal Harden. Worst move since 2000 (unfortunately Steve Nash trade is like # 2 )
3. P, that Rockets next 5 is easy, but it probably only leap frogs them over 2 teams assuming they win all 5. 6 teams have 25 wins, I'm willing to bet at least 5 of the 6 teams will win at least 3 of the next 5.
4. CP, we're still on the same wavelength of trading Hill, Lin. Not sure you get many offers for Lin. Probably just a playoff team looking for a guard, but that salary is tough unless we take 1 contract that goes through 2016 (if that contract is $3mil or less, I'm fine with taking it for Lin).
Sacre doesn't need to be traded. Doesn't help the tank either way, and he likely only fetches a 2nd round pick, and the likelihood of a 2nd round pick being as good as he is, even as a 5th big makes it an unnecessary trade.
Tarik Black is tradeable, but again if it's only a 2nd, he doesn't help the tank either way, should keep him.
Price, Ellington won't get any calls, but if someone does, fine have him. Not even sure Mitch actively shopping them would be able to get rid of either guy.
Randle, Kelly, Swaggy P, Clarkson I wouldn't trade. Kobe is a given.
Wes Johnson who I actually am beginning to like could be a decent trade chip. I do like the idea of bringing him back in 2015-16, but off the bench (at around current money). I think he could do good work if he became a bench player. BUT if there's a deal for him, gotta take it.
Ed Davis - Here's where we have contention. He's easier to trade than Hill because of the money. But you have to really make it worth it to trade him. I wouldn't simply salary dump him for a 2nd. Not worth it. Also if we traded Hill, a depth chart of Boozer/Davis..... Kelly / Sacre is not good, very tank worthy.
