Guys like deng/ariza/gortat would be significant upgrades tho :lol

I just don't understand the certainty that we will suck that bad next year, team hasn't even been built yet. It's like everybody's expecting 12 ppg from kobe and no fa signings. If anything I would expect them to be more aggressive in fa this summer since apparently they are no longer concerned about love. You will find better centers in 15 free agency, the focus this year should be the 1,2,3 positions. Our bench was right behind the spurs in terms of ppg, some basic tweaks to the starting lineup and a bottom 5 record is completely out the question.

Love the Randle pick, wanted either Smart or Randle as both are NBA ready physically and talent wise.

It's not that we would suck, it's that our ceiling next year is fighting for a late playoff seed.
We could fight for a playoff spot, and then make a marquee signing in 2015 or we could try and be as bad as possible, add a top 5 pick to go with Randle and try to pair a 2015 max FA with Kobe/Randle/2015pick

last thought on Randle before we can see him play: Guy can be the 2nd best player on a championship squad.

What's so bad about making the 15 playoffs, signing a max guy in the off season, and going back at in 16? Wouldn't that mean we would be contenders?

stretch provision nash and split the rest of the salary cap for parsons, bledsoe, and monroe :hat

bledsoe
kobe
parsons
randle
monroe

9th seed here we come :smokin

If the Lakers are gonna wait in the wings for Lebron and Melo to make their rounds and decisions, does that mean other FA's are gonna come and go?

Yeah I figure a lot of guys like Lowry might wait until the stars move, especially since they might want to play with them.

Other guys like Bledsoe are more independent though, since they'll also be making the big bucks.

I got you. These folks had the word "bust" in their posts........

I love the Randle pick. He was the best available. No brainer there. :hat

Don't sleep on Jordan Clarkson out of Missouri. Big PG at 6'5". Not a great jump shooter but can get to the rack. Very shifty. Great handles.

Did you listen to the Lowe/Windhorst podcast? They referenced the Dwight/Brook Lopez scenario, and how that played out, they said same thing could go down with Chandler Parsons. Agent makes a push ahead of time, takes you out of window you tryin to open. That's why the Nets signed Lopez, his agent forced their hand.

Just how much flexibility you have.
Like the only FA I would feel comfortable throwing money at are Bledsoe, Lowry or Parsons. Not sold on Monroe, esp. now that we got Randle.
Deng is too old with too many miles logged, Ariza & Gortat are definitely getting overpaid this summer as well.

Why mess up our future salary cap just to compete for a spot you know, we're not winning anything this year.
Now if you're trash again in 2015, you suddenly have two great draft picks playing for 2-3 million and Kobe for 24 million.
This leaves you enough money for potentially 2 max contracts or 1 max and additional good pieces. That's a lot of money to play with.

Kobe/Randle/2015pick + over 30 million in cap space for the 2015. That's why I'm against stretching Nash this season.

Edit: I'll all for signing young players to good/cheap contracts. But only if I knew the player has a reasonable contract that could be traded for a better piece in the future. No handcuffing deals.

Kobe just followed Melo....

nice signing I guess
Knowing Kobe that's probably his pitch. "I followed you, you're welcome. Sign here."

Nah I didn't listen to it, but that's gonna be really interesting.

I just hope if there's a solid FA out there or situation to take advantage of 8o, the Lakers don't let it pass by to keep the slot open for Lebron/Melo.

The only other big move I would like to see happen is maxing out Bledsoe.
Bledsoe + Randle for our future is a niiice look. Could develop into something great. Then just fill in our roster with whatever and keep our cap space for the next offseason. Don't waste the rest of our money on Melo/Gortat/Monroe. It would be a waste for the future.
Just max out Bledsoe. With a young Bledsoe & Randle we can convince other stars to come in the future.

Pretty sure LeBron and Melo will hold everything up for the upper tier guys until they make their decisions.

Oh and what's the deal with this DeAndre Kane kid & LaQuinton Ross??
Who actually watched these kids play during their college careers?? I need the 411

Basically, the Nets were asking Brook to hold off, hold off, etc until they could figure out a deal for Dwight. Brook's agent said screw it, we've waited long enough, either sign us now, or we get an offer sheet from someone else. At that point, the Nets had to cave, and were out of the Dwight sweepstakes.

They are implying here, that the Rockets have told Chandler under the table, be patient, we will get you, let us see who else we can pull, then we'll pull you in too. Parsons can do that, but if he gets tired of waiting, he can sign offer elsewhere, and screw up the Rockets plans.

Bledsoe and Monroe, I don't know if they'll have that same issue, same for Hayward. I don't think their teams are in holding patterns, cuz no one is going there anyways.

Yeah, I remember that. Chandler might not want to pass up on his first payday for too long 8o

Also, in the last Summer of Lebron, didn't Joe Johnson sign first?

Side note, throwback vid:

This was LO's best game as a Laker, but the vid only covers Kobe vs. Bron highlights. Still a nice watch.
