Let me preface by saying that Morey is right and I agree with him...

...but what purpose does it serve to publicize that quote? IMO it does him more harm than good in the long run and feeds into the perception that he looks at every player as pieces on a chessboard and nothing more.

He's a good GM and I don't fault him for taking risks but he's gotta chill sometimes. Might just end up burning you when it matters.

Chandler is a really good basketball player, we just couldn't afford to sign him without getting bosh too. We could have had bosh, Harden, Parsons, and Howard, or only harden Parsons Howard. Only matching his wouldn't allow us to improve the team anymore.

You match Parsons (after missing out on Bosh) and you remove all financial flexibility. So you're stuck with those 3 with no cap space & you just got beat in the first round with homecourt advantage with those 3.

You let him go, you can still throw max money at Love next year or Durant the year after.

And yes, the chance at Love or Durant is better than paying Parsons 15 mil a year & locking myself into a core that isn't a serious contender.

They would've obviously matched the contract if they had snagged Chris Bosh because they'd have the best 2-5 in basketball, so **** flexibility at that point.
