Yeah...I know he isn't all that great overall, but he's so fascinating. Just remembering clear as day his pitching meltdown then all of a sudden coming back as an outfielder. He strikes out a lot, but every hit he gets is a bomb and his assists really are ridiculous. I'm always rooting for him.

Last summer I sat next to one of Ankiel's old spring training roommates when he was with the Cardinals. The guy told me that the reason he lost it was because he pitched to Mike Matheny all year and they never used signals when getting ready to make a pitch, so when Ankiel had to switch to Carlos Hernandez as catcher he just got thrown off by all of it and started getting crazy wild. This dude also told me that he used to blaze with Edwin Jackson and Elijah Dukes in Durham when they would go and play the Bulls in the minorsThat **** still boggles my mind how bad he became that postseason. The control wasn't all there but not like that. He was so electricI'm happy he made it all the way back.
Also, he said that Ankiel was snorting lines to deal with not being able to pitch anymore
