I watched the Marlins Braves highlight breakdown on MLB Tonight. I wholeheartedly agree with them. The fact that Fernandez is getting negative attention is an absolute joke. For a couple of reasons. 1) Gattis pimped the hell out of his homerun FIRST, when they were losing 4-0. 2) Chris Johnson was running his mouth during his third at bat, and continued to do so while running to first base after he hit a lazy fly ball to left field.
THEN Fernandez admired his homerun.
I just dont understand the logic behind the reactions. First of all, Fernandez decided to be the bigger man, and own up to what he did. He said he felt embarrassed and he will learn from this. I thought it was classy and showed that he took ownership of this. Great move.
THEN Brian McCann goes on to say (and I am paraphrasing): "He realized that he messed up. I think emotions got the best of him. You cant do that here. You will get someone hurt."
Oh really McCann? To steal from what Harold Reynolds said last night.....did you make similar comments to Chris Johnson and Evan Gattis after the game? Because these two clowns are the ones who started this entire mess. I almost guarantee you that McCann didnt say anything close to that to his teammates, if anything at all.
As an baseball fan who doesnt have a horse in this race, I gained a ton of respect for Fernandez for this. Subsequently, I lost respect for Gattis, Johnson and more specifically Brian McCann.
