Yeah, Klay is definitely not a main guy on a squad.

And I'm positive he gives less than zero dambs about that.

:lol

Klay gotta go. He's destined to be Pippen's Pippen next to Steph and KD. 2 rings already, go be your own brand and try and get a ring as a #1.

man i absolutely love Klaydagawd but he is not a #1 option. on the warriors, he's one of the best two-way players in the league as well as one of the most deadly shooters. but you put him on a team where he possibly becomes a primary ball handler or at least has to bring the ball up more frequently and he's gonna average 5.5 TOs a game. i'll give klay this, he's done a lot better in decision making in transition and in fast break situations this year and is constantly improving in facets of the game but i can't imagine him being the leader of a team.

what i think folk lose sight of is the fact that the warriors are a sum of all their parts, rather than just steph+KD. maybe i'm a homer but the way this team plays makes everyone look better on both ends of the court.

Okay, I hear ya...I don't peg Klay as a ball handler, but I do think he's undervalued, strictly because he stays in the shadows. He's much more than a C or D option, as he is right now.

Klay as a #1 option would probably be similar to what Booker is doing in PHX but more efficent.

60-points in 3 quarters not a number one option? I doubt it. Klay most definitely a number one option if he goes to another team that lacks a superstar better than him.

You pull the list of all the NBA players in history who have scored over 60 points in a game and all of them were number 1 options.

Yes, even Tom Chambers' 27.5 ppg for the '89-90 Suns

It was for clarities sake, my dude. It's silly to be 100% sure of something like that because you just can't "positively" know, unless you're Klay.

I agree. I also see the point of a main ball handler though, which majority of #1's demonstrate. Klay hasn't done that on the NBA level. Most didn't see him nor know of him in college though, which is onlya part of the reason why they just don't know.

No idea why shump & Jr were even on the team after that BS they pulled last finals

it's mind blowing that somehow, despite the dubs adding KD, klay still managed to take the exact same amount of shots per game. not only that, he averaged the same amount of 2s and 3s attempted, which tells you a lot about his game. so really, his production as a 3rd option (behind steph and kd) was identical to his production as the clear cut 2nd option the year prior.

on the offensive end, why would klay want to switch teams? the spacing of the court and ball movement is PERFECT for him in golden state. defenders can't cheat off steph or KD to help out Klay's defender, and more often than not, klay has wide open shots. in a sense, klay is a looter in a riot when it comes to offense

Here's the thing though, you don't have to be the primary ball handler to be the number one option. Plenty of examples in the history of the game....

Chamberlain, Bird, Bernard King, Alex English, Shaq, David Thompson, Dr. J, Kareem, Ewing, Barkley, Malone, Duncan, Nowitzki, Pierce, et al

Klay is better than what people think. He knows his role right now, but that shouldn't discount what he can be. Most can't see that though, which they will if Klay ever leaves. No doubt.

with the exception of king, english and pierce, you listed a bunch of bigs. of course they're not gonna be primary ball handlers as they got most of their points in the paint or off catch and shoot 3s/midrange

and piru pierce could definitely create his own shot off the dribble far more frequently than klay is asked to do.

All of those examples were in their prime in a different era of basketball.

For the NBA? Yes. Klay? Yes. Advertisers? Yes. GSW? Probably not.

Did you really have to repeat, in question form, all of what I said as a way not to provide anything substantial? Yes.

ehhhh it's arguable who was the leader of that suns team considering KJ was averaging a double double and one of the best PGs

in that 60 point game, klay had the ball in his hands for a total of 90 seconds. i might be over-emphasizing the need to be a ball handler but when you have the ball for only 90 seconds and still manage to drop 60 (plus play stifling defense), yes, that is absurd talent, but that means someone else is creating that shot for Klay

So are you saying Klay wouldn't be a number one option and couldn't create his own shot if he played for Brooklyn? Or Orlando? Or Miami? Or the Lakers?

For arguments sake, a "#1" on a bad team is not the true definition of a #1 in this conversation, which is someone capable of bringing a team to a Championship level and not the 8th seed of their conference, at best.

if put in the position, with the way those teams' rosters are currently constructed, Klay would very likely be the #1 option on offense for those teams but they'd likely be a 7th or 8th seed at best.

If you want Klay to "be his own brand" and lead a team to a chip, he would then have to join a team with another #1, much like KD and Curry and Lebron and Kyrie are all #1s.

Klay goes to New Orleans and teams up with A.Davis, they're both "number 1's" because Davis would avg 25-12-3, while Klay would avg 27 and make 300 three's in a season.

Klay teams up with Westbrook, Klay still scores over 25 a game. Klay teams up with CP3 and Griffin, and Thompson most likely leads the Clips in scoring.

Kyrie is not a #1 neither is klay Thompson, they're both great payers that can go off at anytime.
