Thats the only way they can make the next step. Team is not good enough to get out the west, unless they manage to land a few coveted free agents. IMO they should have went after Joe Johnson during the previous off season. If they have the funds, maybe they should go after Paul Milsap

Golden State is the only team legitimately good enough to get out of the west and the Clippers as presently constructed are actually better than the spurs
It is what it is. They're strapped financially and I don't see much that they can do to actually be significantly better than what they are now.

Right. And for teams with multiple max deals (Clips) who consistently win 50+ games, there's nothing really extraordinary that you can do aside from some good internal luck, trying to improve on the margins and hope some good luck breaks your way.
