(Talk about adding insult to injury) Report: Falcons coaches got stuck without elevator after #SuperBowlLI loss

The Atlanta Falcons fell in overtime 34-28 to the Patriots in Super Bowl LI last night at NRG Stadium in Houston, Texas. Losing in the Super Bowl is always tough, but this particular loss was made more demoralizing by the fact that the team gave up a 28-3 lead to lose in overtime. The Falcons will now go down in history for allowing the biggest comeback ever in the Super Bowl.
Things didn’t get any better for the team’s coaching staff in the aftermath of the loss as according to a report in the Atlanta Journal Constitution, several coaches ended up getting stuck in the upper reaches of NRG Stadium without an elevator coming to take them down to the locker room. Among them? Offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan and defensive coordinator Richard Smith. From Jeff Schultz’s blog:
“When the game ended, the assistants stepped out of their coaching box and went to the elevators. As a general rule, elevators are held for coaches before media — or fans seated in luxury boxes — can use them. But that wasn’t the case this time. The elevators were on other floors taking fans.
After more than five minutes, the coaches were told it might be best to walk down. So they descended a staircase and soon found themselves walking in an NRG plaza with fans, outside of concession stands, as several New England fans were shouting and celebrating their team’s win.
Schultz goes on to explain that the coaches then decided to make their way back to the elevator where they had to wait another 20 minutes before being able to get a ride down to the locker room. It seems that Murphy’s Law came into effect for the Falcons organization starting in the fourth quarter last night, that is to say “anything that can go wrong will go wrong.”
