2019-20 New York Jets season thread. 1-4 (10/21 vs NE MNF)

He wasn't that good at catching the ball in Denver. We overpaid for a second reciever which was ok considering we had zero talent but its not like we didn't pass on, oh you know, Kelvin Benjamin.

This. All of this.  His QB was Peyton Manning, who makes a lot of WR look good. I knew he was a product of 18's skill. I wasn't a fan of the signing.

hopefully tomorrow night doesn't suck and the phrase, "Anything can happen in divisional games" happens in a good way.

Heard a strange rumor on the radio earlier today, Browns might want to trade Manziel...would you guys do it? Or another implosion like tebowmania

It would end horribly like all things Jets do but I'd do it for a 4th round pick because I don't want to take a QB early again with so many other holes on the team. And there is a chance that Manziel will be good. Looking at guys like Romo, Wilson, Kapernick, having a guy like that can elude the pass rush and dance in the pocket is essential in today's NFL unless your Manning/Luck. He's already good at that.

Bring him in and let him and Geno fight it out next year. Whoever does better, gets the spot.

If we also fire Rex, I'd consider bringing in Brian Kelly from Notre Dame, dude can coach!

I don't believe in Manziel. He can't handle scrutiny. Why in the blue hell would you want him here? Despite a great college career, he doesn't scream NFL QB to me. Pass.

Handle scrutiny? I mean, he was under an intense microscope his last year in college and still was the best player in the nation.

Hoyer's been balling out and he's been a good teammate by all accounts. I'd say he's one of the few people who already is used to being under the light/microscope after having gone thought it for three years so far unlike Geno/Sanchez who never had that experience. And plus ater this year, he'll have a chip on his shoulder which for a guy like, him, I'd expect to be a motivating factor.

I'm just saying, he's worth a shot to me as a buy low investment. This team has too many other holes to go QB in the first or second round. If it's a 3 or 4th rounder, I would do it. It's not like we have any potential QB prospect that would replace Geno next year on the horizon.

Manziel, NYC, and the Jets....idk.

Manziel with this current team would suck. Put a couple WR's around him and it might have a chance to work out.

^ College Station ain't NYC homeboy. It's a different animal.

But that's the point, unless your Tom Brady/Peyton Manning/Andrew Luck, no one will be ready for the NYC media blitz. It ruins players before they have a chance. But he has more experience handling insane media and being scrutinized more than most. I'd say that year on ESPN, leading every story is almost worst than NYC, he was the biggest sports guy last year in nationa sportsl media arguably.

I just want to know who you guys think we should do with QB. Free-agent QB's don't happen, we won't select high enough to get Mariotta. All the other QB's are a gamble in this draft and on a team that has so many needs and has no foundation for a QB to succeed, I don't think taking one early is the right move. But y'all think Im wrong apparently. Connor Cook, Hundley, Winston? All those guys are huge question marks. QB's are the biggest gamble there is, I'd rather build the o-line or take someone like Gurley from day 1.

It's funny you name those three to choose to compare to Manziel. Even from the collegiate level, what did all those three have that differs from Manziel? Their professional demeanor. You never heard about them doing anything that warranted any other coverage other than how good of a QB they were. They studied their game plan and were leaders of their team. Manziel loves off field attention. That's a red flag, whether it's perception or it's the reality. As unfair as it may sound, as the QB you can't allow people to have that image of you, you have to protect that image. Manziel hasn't been doing a good job of that. He's quiet now because he's the backup in Cleveland and they're winning. I'd apply the same rule for Jameis Winston. I want NO parts of that dude. I want to say Manziel isn't the typical prototype QB but we don't know how well he would do full time as a starter. If he gets hit a lot he's done, but idk. My gut feeling is he's going to be a bust, and having a Heisman doesn't mean much on the NFL level in a lot of cases.

As far as QB's of the future, in our case, I think we have to build backwards. Get weapons that are really good to make other QBs interested in coming here. That and rebuild the offense. That will surely make a QB want to come.

I'm talking about next year though, who is our QB next year? There needs to be some competition for Geno next year if he is even still around and that's all I'm suggesting in Manziel.

And Brady is in the press all the time with his celeb wife, Manning was involved in a sexual assault incident in college as well. I'm not going to write off a kid at 22 as a leader cause he likes to party. He's 21 years old, he is still maturing. And your right QB has to be a leader but you didn't watch him at A&M if you think he wasn't that. And in one preseason as a pro, we haven't heard anything embarrassing out of him. Perception isn't reality, just because the media treats him one way, doesn't mean its true.

I'm not even a huge Manziel fan but there needs to be another option asides from Geno next year and Manziel for a 4th round pick is good value. That's all.

I'm sure the Browns are eager to ship their rookie QB who they just drafted in the 1st for a 4th rounder 6 games into the season with a 29 year old journey man QB starting.

Call them.

I'm sure the Jets and their fans would be ecstatic to bring in a rookie QB to challenge a 2nd year QB for a starting job.

@RapSheet: On Darrelle Revis: When he learned he was going to be a free agent, he made a wish list of landing spots. No. 1? The NY Jets.

:rolleyes

This makes me very mad. We still have a shot for next season. I hope.
