2023 MLB Thread; Say Hey, Charlie Hustle: Rest In Power, Willie. RIP, Pete.

Expected a response from you. I'm not wrong. This was nothing more than a PR stunt.

Just seeing this. Cant the Cubs just leave this in the past? Trying to repair their own image for having a fanbase that ruined someone's life over something petty. SMFH.

Or maybe they just wanted to make amends with a life long fan who was ran out of town by fanatics.

Either way, nice gesture from the Ricketts.

It is a nice gesture, but kind of hard to see it as anything but a PR stunt.

If they truly wanted to make amends they would've done it sooner instead of waiting to win it all.

They have tried to make amends in the past...Bartman rejected all of their previous attempts except this World Series ring.

Do you blame him? The man had his life destroyed. No amount of "Be our guest at ___ event" or "here is a WS ring" can make up for all that pettiness.

It's not really the organization's fault though...most of them didn't blame Bartman except for Alou at the beginning lol
The fans that vilified Bartman were the real douchebags

Not one single person in the Cubs org was anywhere close to the team in 2003. They had ZERO reason to do anything. They reached out to him completely on their own, not some stupid *** publicity stunt, like they really ******* need that, they won the God damn World Series finally, that's all the publicity they could ever ask for. Giving an extra ring to a fan is NOTHING on the radar.

But please, carry on with the ESPN worthy takes.

The TEAM had zero to do with his life being ruined. The moronic fans, absolutely, the TEAM did nothing to the guy. They've been reaching out to him for years offering him anything they could for him to feel past everything. He's denied them every time, until they won a ring and shut the fans up, and suddenly he accepts the ring.

But yes, do blame the team, do that.

Just because it wasn't needed doesn't make it a PR stunt. He's asked for nothing but to be left alone. If they really wanted to do it to be good guys they could give it to him with out telling the media.

And yet he accepted the ring and released a statement of how happy he was to get it. Does that mean Bartman is doing a PR stunt himself? It's moot at the point to diminish what the Cubs organization is doing to make up for the abuse Bartman took from the fans.

If giving Bartman a ring was "NOTHING on the radar," why couldnt they be quiet about it? Why couldnt they do it under the radar? Why did it have to become a national story again? Because the Cubs wanted to attempt to repair their own image for their fans ruining a man's life.

And the whole "the TEAM had nothing to do with any of this" is nonsense. You know, I know and everyone knows that a team's fanbase is an extension of the team. Whether we think that should be how it is, is irrelevant. It is.

The guy has REPEATEDLY stated he wants to be left alone. What do the Cubs do? Put him back in the spotlight again. You can continue to support your team all you want CP. But the simple fact of the matter is, they are the ones that are continuing to publicly reach out to Bartman and put him back in the spotlight, a place he explicitly has stated he wants no part of.

He was given the ring IN PRIVATE, at Wrigley Field. No media, no photos, just a private tour with Ricketts around the field so he could see what was new around Wrigley.

They then released a joint statement. The reason? There has been push from fans/media to have Bartman back to Wrigley, same as there was for Buckner. ****, on this very board I said we need to have Bartman throw out the first pitch for opening day. The fans need to standing O that dude and apologize for bein douche bags. HE doesn't want that. But privately gettin a ring? Yeah, he's down for that.

   I get it dland, you are just gonna ride this the whole way ignoring how it actually went down. Hence why I knew this was a pointless convo, carry on with your shtick.

Oh well, he was due for a bad outing. First runs he's given up since July 6th.
