They have no choice. Baseball isn’t the national pastime anymore. Hasn’t been in a while. If they continue to drag this out and the season is shortened, public interest in the sport will tank and it may never recover.

It’s weird how the four major-sport’s regional TV deals basically make it though, so that sport can’t die even if no one watches/low ratings like baseball

With baseball it's not just about ratings though, it's still live content that fills time slots for networks. A quantity thing with an 162 game season. In a time where there's not much urge for scheduled viewing anymore, due to streaming/watch at leisure, live sports continue to hold some sort of value.It’s weird how the four major-sport’s regional TV deals basically make it though, so that sport can’t die even if no one watches/low ratings like baseball
