2024 MLB Thread; RIP Willie Mays & Pete Rose. Dodgers win #8!

Wow, just read about what happened :smh:

We are ****ed, wonder who the 13 guys are

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/...a-placed-mlb-banned-list-team-loses-prospects

Venezuelan infielder Kevin Maitan ($4.25 million signing bonus), Venezuelan catcher Abrahan Gutierrez ($3.53 million), Dominican shortstop Yunior Severino ($1.9 million), Dominican right-hander Juan Contreras ($1.2 million), Dominican shortstop Yenci Peña ($1.05 million), Dominican right-hander Yefri del Rosario ($1 million), Cuban outfielder Juan Carlos Negret ($1 million), Venezuelan shortstop Livan Soto ($1 million) and Colombian right-hander Guillermo Zuniga ($350,000).

...Venezuelan outfielder Antonio Sucre, Dominican outfielder Brandol Mezquita and Dominican shortstop Angel Rojas.Atlanta's deal with South Korean shortstop Ji-Hwan Bae,...

Any of these guys top prospects...? 8o

Ex-GM got the hammer for sure, damn. Being able to throw unlimited $$$$ at these kids though, major advantage. I'm a proponent of them being subject to the regular draft.

Apparently other prospects could be declared free agents too, but Maitan is the big fish. Teams have been trying to position themselves to sign Shohei Ohtani this offseason, but Maitan, who will be subject to the same financial restrictions, will serve as a solid consolation prize, assuming he's declared eligible to sign this winter. He was in pretty bad physical shape last season, prompting evaluators to say with confidence that he won't be able to stick at shortstop. However, he appears to have diligently worked on his conditioning this offseason, so he should at least be able to handle third base long term. The switch-hitting prodigy did not post impressive numbers last season as a 17-year-old in rookie ball, but he still has the potential to provide a plus hit tool and plus-plus raw power, which puts his fantasy ceiling in rare company among teenage prospects.

I dont see any way Otani goes to a National League team. A team isnt gonna wamt him to play in the field after he pitches. DH, yes.

I know Otani is a talented dude.....but is he guaranteed to be good or great in the league? Not trolling, just legitmately wondering with all the hype and videos lol

Otani will be a ranger

dude is coming off an injury but I feel like he will be more productive as a pitcher than a hitter

Ohtani is 23 years old. Even if he comes over and doesn't find immediate success, there's room/time for growth. Ichiro, both Matsuis, Tanaka, Darvish, and other imports have come over in their late 20s so those samples aren't directly indicative as their potential wasn't was Ohtani's is....

How many late bloomers have we seen in the Bigs the past couple years, both pitching and hitting? Yes the kid can be a bust, but the fact is that he's years away from even being in what would be considered his prime years. The potential just outweighs all risks at this point.

Ohtani and Giancarlo really makes this one of the greatest Offseasons in recent memory.

Even if he does bust (which I don't think will happen), the cost to acquire him is practically nothing.
