I get what you're saying and you're definitely correct, but sports gambling creeping its' way into the mainstream nationwide and being actively promoted by the leagues blurs that stigma IMO. Imagine these rookies coming in the league the next few years that came up with these apps everywhere, NFL combine gonna need a class on "don't eff it up by gambling".

Most athletes seem to have common sense to not gamble, but the list has been growing over the last few years. Especially in college.

The stigma of athletes/coaches gambling will never be blurred though. Professional sports leagues couldnt be more clear about what is allowed and what isnt. And gambling is THE biggest no no of all rules. If young players cant understand this, thats a them problem.

fair enough. you'd think it's common sense but these pros and these kids are effing up their money.

People seem to have a tough time understanding this. It’s not exclusive to sports either. My friends who work at big accounting firms aren’t allowed to buy stock or trade in the companies they audit. It’s common sense.

I’m not questioning whether it’s a crime, it definitely is a legitimate charge. Getting deported for a non-violent crime, or at least drug-trafficking, is wild. You’re giving our justice system too much credit lol

Also, wire transfers are done in person. For that amount it would also have to be sent to the back channel because even bank VPs are only authorized to sign off up to certain amounts (typically $1M). So whether it was Ohtani or Ippei, bank surveillance got them.
