2024 MLB Thread; RIP Willie Mays & Pete Rose. Dodgers win #8!

Anybody watching this "Choque de Gigantes" game between the Venezuelan teams on MLB Network? It's probably the most hopping I've seen the Marlins stadium since they wore teal lol. Some :emoji_fire: ladies in the crowd, too :nerd:

wonder what all the Japanese ball players coming here to play is doing to Japanese baseball. just think if all our major stars were going there to play in their prime when they hit free agency for that payday ...

Japan sort of tried that in the early 90s - luring talent for big $$$. I think Cecil Fielder went over there while he was still pretty decent and a household name in the US. Didn't really work. Everyone in the world wants to play MLB.

i know of our guys that went there but i don't ever recall anyone leaving in their prime to play there. usually it's a former star on his last payday. picture Juan Soto gettin a $900 million dollar contract and going over there, or even Judge ( yes i'm using my Yankee fandom as the example ). didn't Cano play there and tore it up ? i know baseball here is where it's at but baseball in Japan from what i hear is just as popular.

Yeah, I mean maybe if the money is outrageous, sorta like what the Saudis pulled with LIV. But Japan's culture is so different I feel like it'd have to be a star that has Japanese heritage who'd want to pick up and move over there for a contract. This isn't a week in Tokyo, this is 1-4 years over there you're talking about. I think it's a lot easier for someone like Shohei to find support and a Japanese community in the US than it would be for someone like Jazz Chisolm, Juan Soto or Mike Trout to be comfortable over there.

I’ll take Adames if it means re-signing Pete and moving Vientos to DH. But I really want to see the Mets make a play for Vladdy next offseason.

Need to get out and make offers on Burnes and Fried if we’re not going to go after Crochet.

Love the idea of Teo for the Sox on a 3 year deal.

Sounds like a play to get the money up.

Don't see how the Dodgers grab him.

yeah i refuse to believe we are going to seriously go after him. 10 years, $300m will be our offer :lol

Nothing like seeing two former Mets in the cy young race

Soto is staying in NYC. Hopefully the Mets can sign him and Burnes/Fried.
