Fans were/are outraged point blank. He's a fan favorite. Most beloved Red Sox since Papi/Nomar/Pedro. After the trade, folks talking about not investing a dime in the team which I hope they follow through with.
Botching the trade is insult to injury, unless they miraculously flip the script and sign him which is unlikely. If he doesn't get dealt now, he'll probably get dealt at the deadline for less than what they agreed on.

In my opinion, it’s insulting and embarrassing how this incompetent front office is handling this. It’s already disrespectful that they did it, got ****** returns, and now pull out of it cuz they forgot to do their homework on the players they’re getting in return.
The fact that all the bad contracts they’ve handed out over the years, and they forgot to lock Mookie up for the long term
.But at the end of the day, just gonna root for whoever’s left and what their goals are for this season.

As long as John Henry owns the Red Sox, it’s just the same BS every ***damb year. I get that the team has to get under the luxury tax or w/e it’s called so that ****’s on him. Like... he can write Mookie a check right now and be done with it. But naaah, let’s trade Mookie away and raise ticket prices while we’re at it.

I would have personally preferred them to have an outlook in the future with a rich farm system, reasonable contracts, and a sane front office who sticks with one manager for more than 2-3 years so the team’s competitive/built for years to come.
You know it’s bad when the team’s still paying Manny Ramirez, and can’t even call-up Rusney Castillo.
