Thinking about it, who are they marketing the wizard of oz pairs to? Seems at times whoever is green lighting these colorways/designs is out of touch with the skate/sneaker culture.

You don’t think they maybe tried to throw em in with the drop of the movie somewhat? I’m sure most fans of the movie or Wizard of Oz franchise not checking for Nike Dunks, but it could definitely be selling point for many. I’m not a fan btw lol, franchise nor kicks.

Shoulda been a regular Nike dunk then, imo. Nike sb should be kept with skate culture, and infuences. I could be wrong, but I doubt dudes were finishing up a skate session, and someone says, “hey, y’all wanna go to my crib and watch wizard of oz when we’re done?”
I don’t know. There have been some questionable influences that turned out well, doesn’t mean they shoulda been made.

powerpuff girls are believable because of some age groups of some skaters (weird inspiration, but whatever), jarritos are somewhat of a staple in a lot of SoCal areas/cultures, in which skating is also a part, so they can coincide… wizard of oz tho? That’s probably even before Tony hawks time
It’s cool they’re doing a collector type thing, just shouldn’t have been on an sb dunk, imo.
Just my 0.02 there have been plenty of weird ones in the past, and I’m sure we’ll see plenty more.

wizard of oz is americana, not really that deep. it's a kid story that alot of people are familiar with. not everything sb has to be a direct inspiration from the skate scene, some things can be fun and different i.e. chunky dunks.

Considering all of the weed themed dunks they've had, it's also not uncommon for people to light up while having Wizard of Oz on, with and without Dark Side of the Moon.

Say what? It’s 2024. It’s not uncommon to light up a fatty wearing anything you like. I walked past some guys sharing a blunt wearing dress shoes on my way home from my work party tonight.

Seems like he’s been wearing them since the Verdy x Futura mini collab at Art Basel…Even though those were better than the regular Verdy’s I just can’t mess with furry shoes…
