2k5 - All-Star Review

How is the fit of the 2k5s around the ankles? Would ASO ankle braces be able to fit inside the shoe?

Does it seem contradictory to use the Free Tech in a performance shoe.

From what I read, Free is supposed to simulate running barefoot. IE it exposes muscles in your feet and makes them work more than they would in other, more protective shoes.

So I can see training in Free, but playing basketball games in them? I'd rather have shoes that protect me from injury.

This isnt an attack on the shoes, I've never tried them. But the logic of marketing them with free technology seems off.

^
I've got Nike Free 5.0 and I must tell you the Huarache 2k5s did not feel anything like Free 5.0 and was not felxible like the 5.0s.

^^^ EXACTLY!

it is only the forefoot outsole *_inspired_* by the free technology, that is the flex-groove. which makes it a _little_ bit more flexible there. basically you can bend the NIKE FREE 5.0 in a 90 degrees angle, see pics below, but you can hardly bend 2K5 with your hand.

but what's all this talk of "feeling the free technology" if its only "inspired"

I'm sure it's a fine shoe, but the marketing seems to be another case of Nike telling it's customers they're getting something new and improved when that's not really the case. Kind of like the lace cover on the AJ 19s.

plus didnt you say this "Hence my feet gets tired extremely quickly, those unused foot muscle gets used after some 20+ years (I only roaming around the house bare feeted when i was a kid, when I get older I wear a slipper and since then those muscles are unused"

which would support my original post about why put free in a performance shoe.

^^ picture back up!

okay, what i said about the first time wearing the 2K5 walking made my feet tired extremely quickly was true, because even through that so called inspired free technology is nothing more than more flexibility in the forefoot than most other shoes, plus the outsole of this 2K5 is quite wide and if you notice in the toe area it is very much flat on the ground, and this makes me use my toes more (see other running shoes or even compare the Lebron II for that matter, they are elevated up more), all these contributed to my experience on the first wearing of the 2K5.

Now that I bought the real Nike Free 5.0, and the difference in terms of "Free" technology is HUGE! (see pics above on how I flex it)

again, "feeling the free technology" means feeling the forefoot flexibility I guess.

I don't think the marketing exaggerated much because on the website the tech report only said it is "free inspired" and its flexibility, but I'm not sure about what they said earlier.

allright, that makes sense, thanks. And maybe it's not nike that's hyping the free in 2k5, but it sure gets hyped here.

I swear, if Nike claimed it's shoes were better because of invisible cushioning technology the next day there's be dozens of post here from people claiming how nice it was. Just like the emporers new clothes.

ok so they cut ya ankle like crazy if u wear no-shows?

^ I think you are the only one.

Anyways, my question to 2k5 owners is: what is so good about having the free technology in them??

^ you were 2 days late about that porn pic

the good about having free technology in them is that it is more flexible at the fore foot.

Ok, but why is that better? How does that make the cushioning better?

Don't Be So Humble:[/b]

more flexibility = more control = better
the free technology in 2k5 have nothing to do with its cushioning.

Ive never actually gone out and looked for some H2ks, ive only seen pictures and the pictures always make em feel really high top material and i only wear mids like those in lebrons, so how big is the part around the ankle high top or mid?

Ive never gone out and look for some H2ks but from all the pics ive seen they look like high toips and i usually only wear mids, coz i want them to be casual also, like the LBJ2. So what kinda shoe is the H2k5?

they are kinda high, and I don't think they are comfortable for casual wear.

I tried on a pair yesterday so i can use them for ball today. I'm still kinda torn on whether or not to get these. they felt comfortable but felt too mushy up front. i think thats why it fells like your foot is doing alot of work. the footbed is too soft. i think the heel area is also too damn squishy. probably for just running they're fine. For me anyways. but for cutting and defensive purposes, i think you'd lose a slight advantage.

Thanks for the reply. I'm still not seeing a clear-cut advantage because I don't see how more flexibility = more control = better. Don't see the basketball implications. I've played in them once, and the cushioning is pretty mushy. My right foot started to get sore too. Maybe I'll come to appreciate them more with more wear. I've heard a lot of good things about them.

^ If you think about some other shoes that built like a brick, e.g. the KOBETWO, a complete opposite shoe in terms of flexibility, how do you feel about balling in a pair of shoes that have no flexibility?

Flexibility have a direct implication on giving you a larger range of motion, e.g. before you lift weights or exercise, you do some stretching to increase your muscle flexibility to avoid injuries and you have a better reach/greater range of motion when you lifts or move, meaning you can do more.

At this point if you are convinced that the 2k5 fore foot flexibility gives you more control on your fore foot and toes, it then gives you a clear advantage when you perform basketball moves like crossover, pivot moves, sudden stops that require precise control on your toes and forefoot.

Hence flexibility = more control = better

The cushioning is still zoom air + carbon fibre, I believe what makes it feels extra mushy is because the flexibility in the fore foot makes you "flex/bend" you fore foot/toes more. which previously you NEVER had to do so much with your other basketball shoes, now that you are not used to this, and hence it should makes your foot feel tired quicker. Once you got used to it/ your foot become stronger, it should then be turned into an advantage.

Sometimes extra function comes with a price (trade offs)

may be someone else could explain this better?

Thanks airsam. I played in them today and they felt pretty damn good. Good shoes.

QUESTION!!!

You know how the base of the shoe sticks out underneath the heel creating a groove....has anyone expierienced someone stepping on it as you were walking and it cracked as in removing itself from the heel/TPU?

I remember someone posting where this happened and it came off.
Basically I'm asking if the base of the sole holds up to wear and tear if someone does accidentaly steps on them.
