I think it had to deal with the amount of memory CD's had back then. Cassette sometimes had a side A and side B so they could put the song on them. Anyways that should have been the first song on the CD because it was a recurring theme throughout the movie.
Cassettes have more run time, because the label could do them in 60 or 90 minute.. Cassettes always have side A and side B.
Record labels often did bonus songs on one or the other. There was no rhyme or reason though. CD's cost more, so it was understandable to include additional songs on a CD. Back then CD's weren't at Best Buy for $9.99 or $10.99.
