You're a lame. Why are you still posting in this thread after "2(9+3) =/= 2* 1(9+3)"
Multiplying both sides by x first is the correct step. In no way, shape or form is the x a part of the parentheses. WHAT IS SO HARD TO UNDERSTAND? If it was the problem would look like this: 48/(x(9+3))

Since it does not, we can make the correct assumption that the 48 is dividing into the x and then multiplying by (9+3)

From there we, gee, multiply both sides by x and solve the problem.

Sit the @#$# down clown. Like I said you provided the 2 WORST responses in this thread yet you continue to come back and post. Step your math game up son.
why you assuming a multiplication problem, when there isn't a multiplication sign in the entire problem, but there is a division sign indicating the division of 48 and 2(9+3)

288 is a NO.

48 ÷ x(9+3) =2
48 ÷ 12x = 2
48 = 12x * 2
48 = 24x
24x = 48
x = 2

This is where you went wrong. 48/288 = 0.16(repeating)7.  0.16(repeating)7 * 12 = 2

12x= 1/6

you divide both sides by 12 to isolate x, not multiply....

Actually you are right i found the REAL error. You made the division symbol disapear. do we agree that 48 divided variable is the same as 1/48 times the variable? If you are going to remove the divsion symbol you have to change it to 1/48. Not to sure about that but I need to work out the problem.

this can't be real life. lets only multiply x by both sides because it gives us the answer we want, instead of multiplying both sides by x(9+3) or 12x lol
If you distribute the x into the parentheses you are MULTIPLYING THEREFORE BREAKING THE ORDER OF OPERATIONS. DO YOU NOT REALIZE THIS? IS IT THAT HARD TO UNDERSTAND?
HOW DOES X (9+3) BECOME 12X CLOWN? OH WAIT, YOU MULTIPLIED.

DISTRIBUTION = MULTIPLICATION

THEREFORE, YOU DIVIDE 48 BY X FIRST. Do you see this? Is it hard to grasp the concept?

It disappeared because he divided both sides by 12X.

Damn man, you're really terrible at math and you still keep posting here.

48 ÷ x(9+3) =288

In this equation you have to solve x(9+3) first.

48 ÷ 9x+3x =288 would be the next step, you cereal?

48 ÷ 12x = 288 Multiply 12x

48 = 12x * 288 Divide by 288

48/288 = 12x

12x = 0.16

x = 0.16/12

x = 0.014

 i guess i messed up the first time with the fraction BS.  Either way x=/= 2 doesn't work in this equation.

but then again I've been out of school for almost 4 years.

For those of you so adamant about the answer 2, PLEASE INPUT THE EQUATION INTO YOUR CALCULATOR AND SHOW US THAT IT EQUALS 2. THEN POST THE PICTURE HERE SHOWING 48÷2(9+3) = 2 ON YOUR CALCULATOR

Easy.

Aint no one trying to infer what you're trying to say based of what you write.

I asked a simple question and a YES or NO would have sufficed as an answer.

YES or NO, is there a difference between those two equations, which I wrote earlier equal?

no,

48÷x == 48 * 1÷x

48÷x =/= 1÷48 * x

the second one would get you x÷48, which is clearly not 48÷x
