Just from my skim of the article this sounds hella unethical unless there is an implicit humanitarian or philanthropic angle to be found somewhere

If people die out, we might need to clone the deceased to populate the world again or if a prominent figure dies, we might need him again. You just gotta make sure your science is careful.
