__Anybody have their own apartment?

Damn... some of yall trying to spend 50% of your total income on housing when you are pulling in less than $30K gross a year?

I thought most of NT was young and likes to go out and have fun. If you are spending half of what you make on an apt, you better pay for a good internetconnection cause youre going to be spending a lot of time on NT as your primary form of entertainment. I understand that different people make differentsalaries and there are different factors that come into play, but if you make $1,500/mo and people are telling you that you should be straight spending $750/moon rent.... good luck brother.

This is how I see it

$1,500
- $700 rent
- $100 cable + internet + utilities
- $200 ($50 x 4 weeks approx) groceries
- $50 cellphone bill
= $450 leftover for the month

If you still have a shoe habit you better cut that pronto. With only $450/mo after your fixed monthly costs, how you gonna save for the future, contribute toyour 401K or Roth-IRA or do anything to set yourself up for when you're older? Hell... how you even gonna take a girl out to dinner and a movie with thatkind amoney?

My utilities are around $100/month
Cable-$150/month (comcast ftl)
Groceries $200/month
Cell Phon 100/month

Lets just say working for DC Govt isnt the best, but I have Disposable Income every 2 weeks AFTER I pay my bills

Roomates are where it's at. You can get 3 bedroom for $1000 and split that 3 ways. Just make sure the roomates are on point with their financial situation.

Tell that to people in NYC, studios in nice neighborhoods are a grand easy.

Maybe in West Hickville Tennesee. In NYC, LA, DC you cant get a 3 bedroom for $1000.

All depends on where you live. Where I am in Jersey I was paying $880 for a one bedroom apartment with my girl. At the end of the month with rent, electric,cable/internet/phone, and cell we were paying about $1300 a month.

hmm so should a rule of thumb be 25%-33% of your salary should go toward living expenses? After seeing that estimation of 50% of your salary going towards rentit's going to be rough finding a nice place and still having $ to splurge.

I got my own apartment 330 a month with cable, water, included. And I work there so I get free rent. Excellent set up to have being at school. AZ realestate FTW

If it's going to be a friend, seriously consider if y'all can be friends living together...

Most people can't live with their friends for the simple fact that the lil things they do that piss you off can kind of go ignored when y'all don't live in the same house.

Same home... All their annoying characteristics are displayed all day.

This is the truth. I roomed with my friend I've known since for about 11 years or so and it ended horribly. He didn't clean up after himself, didn't shower a lot, and once freaked out on everyone, especially me, during a party and hasn't been better since. And he didn't pay his half ofthe rent in time.

Make sure you know it's gonna work out. Don't be blind like I was.

wait what?

so you do pay or dont pay for your apt? Are you saying that if some dude walked in off the street he could live in that building for $330/mo including allutilities and cable? I need to move to AZ if that is true.

oh and if times do get rough ima just get a part time job. I work that M-F 7-4 shift at the moment at Ft. Belvoir. DMV heads knows whats good.

for those who rent apartments, how accurate are the ratings on apartmentratings.com for your apartment? Because Im looking for one, and almost every apt I lookfor has plenty of negative reviews.

another thing u gotta factor in besides groceries, utilities, cell phone,
is car payments, insurance, gas $$$
i make about 2000 a month AFTER taxes, my rent is about 800
mom and pops helped me out with credit cards so i pay them 500 a month
baby mama lives with me too, she makes about the same i make, she also pays my mom and pops 500 a month too
my car payment is 350, hers is about 450. baby mama takes care of all the utilities/car insurance
groceries for a kid is expensive too.so together we pull in about 4000 a month, take away 1000 we pay my parents
so with 3000 income, our apt is less than 30% of AFTER tax income....its tough, but with making 1500 PER MONTH
U definitely need a couple of roomates or u need to stack chips for a minute....if u REALLY need to be on your own
u need another job.

take it from my experience i make that same amount of money and after paying bills and rent and buying a metro card I'm broke but the feeling and the prideof having your own place its priceless you just have to manage your money really well and stop buying sneakers. its worth the sacrifices trust me.

Its expensive to live on your own.

here is a run down of my bills this past month.

rent=$600 (1 bed 1 bath apt)
electric= $44 (in the summer it was close to $100)
cable/internet= $144 (i have an hd box with all the movie channels etc)
Cell= $116 (sprint unlimited plan)

I didn't include groceries, you can do that on almost every budget. Im sure you could eat off of $100 a month if you wanted.

In my opinion you should figure out how much living on your own is going to cost you a month. Stack up 12 months worth of $ and then move out on your own. Ifyou get hit with something crazy and you need to pay a huge bill or lose your job, your screwed. Getting evicted and being late on your utility/cable billswill kill your credit. Make sure you have a cushion.
