A conversation about North Africa

Globally, they are definitely African however they may want to look at it. Culturally they are most closely aligned with the Middle East. Primarily, because they are Muslims. Islam also does mention that black skin = curse, which in turn is connected to slavery.

Ethiopians are the definition of old Christian, but they also identify differently than the rest of Africa. Mainly due to the fact that only one other country share similar type story, they identify first as Ethiopians and African second.

It is weird when you look at if from an outside perspective, but the history of the whole continent is much more intricate and varies from country to country.

If you're a modern Egyptian, highly likely you're not African
Naw they def African, same as the white ppl in South Africa ...that's all facts from technicalities and geography tho , culture wise it's up to them

culture ≠ geographyy...

nobody here is gonna tell a Russian he's Asian.

da easiest answer here is in America, "African" since Jessie Jackson invented it, describes specific a ehntic/ groups, where as

da arab world spans across multiple continents and those folks are all connected by culture/religion/language....not unlike da latin/hispanic world.

Never said culture is the same a geography ...but North Africans ( it's even in the damn name  ) are African ...they can be Arabic Africans if they want but doesn't change the fact they come from a country located in the contintent of Africa ...Russia is different because it's been seen as part of Europe for so long, they call that whole region Eastern Europe

N Jessie Jackson invented what ? , the only answer in America and throughout the world is they are Africa..this is a fact and it's not changing ...you might not understand it but there are all different types of Africans

Lived in Algeria for two years, and none of the people I interacted with identified as Arab, only North African and Berber. The country is an odd mix of African, French and Arab cultures.

They make it sound like African is a race. But most people associate African with sub-saharan, darker-skinned people. If you're born/raised and or a permanent resident in Africa, your African. You don't have to refer to yourself as that though.

I've met people from India that call themselves Asian all the time, even though most people associate being Asian with people having roots in southeast and east Asia (Vietnam, Cambodia, China, Korea, etc,)

Indians from India refer to themselves as south asian. Same with those from Pakistan and Sri Lanka.

jessie jackson advocated da term "African American" to replace "black" in da 80's.

you're not gonna insist that Mexicans & Canadians refer to themselves as "North American" are you?

im fairly certain when arabs shun da "African" label is rebuffing da panethnicity
definition, not its geographical location.

Because they're ignorant, if they're a Moroccan, Algerian, Tunisian, Egyptian etc. National then they're African.
