Forever 21 has been pirating Photoshop, according to a new lawsuit from Adobe, and it's facing serious fines as a result. The suit was filed yesterday in California District Court, alleging that Forever 21 pirated 63 different instances of Adobe software including copies of Photoshop, Acrobat, and Illustrator. Autodesk and Corel also joined Adobe in the suit, based on pirated copies of Autodesk, WinZip and PaintShopPro, among others. According to the complaint, Forever 21 "continued their infringing activities even after being contacted by Adobe regarding the infringement."

It's not yet clear how Adobe traced back the violations, but it has thoroughly documented them, providing registration numbers and dates for each instance. The result, according to Adobe, is "willful, intentional, and malicious copyright infringement," and they're asking the court to issue an injunction and compensate the companies for lost revenue, court costs, and additional damages. Adobe moved towards cloud-based versions of Photoshop and other software in 2013, and many responded to the shift by seeking out pirated versions of the software. In response, Adobe has actively encouraged employees to turn in employers using unauthorized versions of the software.

our company pays for it *shrugs*

someone in their company probably tried calling customer support for troubleshoot/help and got caught

 Word.

Some intern in the design lab probably got on the phone and started dry-snitchin the whole operation on accident (ie, "how come my version is in only Spanish and my colleagues is in only German" )

Individual pirating I'm sure Adobe more or less accepts with the territory, but you gotta have a lot of nerve to pirate for an entire corporation. It's like music school pirating Ableton for all its students

It's funny how of all the people or companies to made an example by, it had to be Forever 21. Photoshop was seriously one of the first things I ever bootlegged and I think I got mine on Kazaa. Haha.

Y'all are wildin if you're really gonna sit in here and not think that Adobe cares about corporations pirating their stuff. This is why audits happen.

I am sure they do care but just like the music industry, the ones taking real advantage of getting photoshop are the smaller people. For the most part, every corporation should just pony up the dough to buy PS. I think that is what makes this so funny. Forever 21's revenues are over 3 billion and yet they are using pirated software. I am sure Adobe is going to just Forever 21 as the example but I am sure Forever 21 can pay off any claim without any problems.
