the toe box of the lows are bigger because the patent wraps further up the toe to give you more support....so yeah more toe room.

Put a pair lows and mids that's the same size side by side and you will see what I'm saying. Otherwise you'll be looking as confused as the ugly broad in your GIF.
I've owned every pair of XIs from the OG's through the 2011 Concords. I can tell you that the cut of the patent leather varies greatly between pairs.
I dont think it has anything to do with "more support" and I can definitely tell you it does not mean "more toe room". Patent leather extending further up the bridge of the foot wont do anything to make the shoe fit larger and provide more toe room, it would take a longer midsole/outsole would do that.
Welp there's proof. The top of all the lows extend upwards a little bit like that.
