Consider it a lesson learned. For leather uppers even socks will work as I used socks for my BC3's when ironing the toe. But when it comes to Durabuck (or Nikebuck if you will) a shoe tree is definitely required. Socks won't keep the toe completely and firmly filled and they also won't retain their shape under the heat and pressure being put on the toe compared to a shoe tree. On a side note, despite the creases they look nice. Slanted toe and grey rand lines really do complete these.To each their own. I know dudes in here who think bootcut jeans still look good so it’s a matter of taste.

First pic is the final result. Second pic left shoe is without and right shoe is after I applied it. Took only 10 mins to do. They should hold up.
