Interesting - but there are probably fairly obvious reasons for it.

1. More people having eye exams - it's much more acceptable now to have glasses so people are more likely to have an exam if they can't see.

2. More asians in the population - it's a well established fact that asian populations tend to near-sightedness so if the asian population in the US isincreasing then that could skew the results - granted it wouldn't account for all the increase but it could for some.

There isn't a whole lot of evidence that PC use, phone use etc. actually makes you short-sighted - it's mostly hearsay.
