Glad to see Bird-person back and more background on when and where he met Rick but damn the whole ep was simply a vehicle to bring him back and I guess add that he has a child now.

I think it also added a huge part of Rick's backstory and reading more around the net, builds out the universe and how Rick's end up where they end up. Theory I read said the flashback memory from season 3, when his house exploded, wasn't a made up memory like Rick claimed. The Council of Rick's blew his house up in an assassination attempt. Hence he's one of the weirdos that moved in with an abandoned version of adult Beth because that Beth's Rick abandoned the family to join the Council of Rick's. The reddit board has a lot more detailed explanation.

i think thats one inconsistency with rick, his love for “his” daughter beth, in s1 he had no issue leaving the first beth introduced to us when he turned the planet full of chronenberg
then theres also that episode where morty pissed off the squirrells and they left that universe as well so he obviously has no issues switching between beths but he seemed to care about this recent beth that he cloned and sent to space?

My theory is that this season is a big Evil Morty origin story. No basis for this other than the little inconsistencies like you noted.
No scratch that. Bird person being in his state brings continuity from past seasons into this one.

Could be cuz his original Beth did die like younger memory Rick said.
Then Rick using his nihilistic logic basically said since there's infinite universes so I have infinite daughters and it doesn't really matter.
And I feel Rick only really stuck to having a family cuz of something to do with the original tragedy being the loss of his wife.

Yea I assume it’s an evolving thing.. he lost his family
then he uses a ‘new‘ family for comfort, but they’re ultimately expendable/disposable.. then maybe he becomes attached to a specific version(s) or things go down with versions that lead to certain things
