Anyone ever tear/rupture their achilles tendon (partially/fully)?

Had a basketball game last Sunday and it appears that I may have at minimum slightly torn my achilles tendon.  Didn't hear a pop or anything, pretty decent amount of pain plus hard to feel my foot right after.  Went to a specialist who put me in a walking boot/cast and gave me crutches.  I have to get the swelling down before I can get a MRI next week.
For those of you who have had the injury, what was the rehab like?

Did you require surgery?

Timeframe?

Thanks in advance.

A friend of mine fully tore his, took about 6 months to recover but his didn't coil up under his calve muscle so it didn't have to stretch back out as much.

The area around my calf is tight, for sure, but not too bad. I can hobble around without pain depending on how I set my foot. Had an x-ray and it's still attached at the heel at least.

Thanks for the info. 6 months would be brutal

Yeah since yours isn't fully torn I doubt it would be 6 months.  One of the longest parts of rehab for a fully torn achilles is just stretching it out, which you won't have to deal with to the same extent.  My guess would be about 3 months with surgery for a partial, mainly just needing to work to get the strength back in it

i'd just chill out if i was you for at least a few weeks. cause a small tear cause be a complete tear in no time. i had a full tear of my achilles. not nice, you get a cast for a few weeks and then you have rehab, trying to walk first without pain, then strength training to be able to run and jump.

for partial tear i dont think you need surgery.it'l' probably heal on its own
